No, you can come in as E2.

Of course, if money and/or rank is your concern, you are better off going officer.

This response is not personal so do not take it as such. All wannabes should take this into consideration when asking about a jump in rank. Can You Lead? With rank comes responsibility and there are many traits that make a leader. You may impress your friends with a guaranteed promotion before entering boot, it will not impress fellow Marines. Don't put the cart before the horse, make sure you graduate bootcamp and work on leadership.

PFCs and boot LCPLs all clean with as much intensity and vigor as a Pvt right outta boot. The only thing that really matters is Time in grade/service when you're that low on the totem pole.

Food for thought.

I know your post was not specifically made toward me, but I know I can lead. I have always took the lead and I hate fallowing.

A college graduate who doesn't know proper tense and can not spell is not likely to be a good leader.

There is no civilian experience which prepares an individual to become a Marine non commisioned officer.

Roll Eyes Next leader of the free world, Eh? Roll Eyes

Look hotshot. Every good leader will tell you that in order to be a good leader you must be a good follower. Wink What do you think, that leaders don't have bosses?

Everyone below Commandant is a follower and everyone above the most boot PVT is a leader.

I can just hear your first command... "Come on Marines, fallow me!" Wink

Among all the other leadership traits, the leader needs to know his/her job; inside, outside and backwards and all the subtle details that you don't learn in training (ie; your MOS school). There are things you learn by doing them in the real world environment. This is generally accomplished by working your way up, not being plunked into a Cpl.s position because you have your degree. A person placed in that position would be eaten alive by Pfc.'s and L/Cpl.'s who know the job and were probably doing it before you ever set foot on either MCRD.

As stated above, and in spite of what you think, you have not experienced anything in your up-until-now all civilian world that qualifies you to lead Marines of any stripe....

Why is this kid still sliming around here? Everytime I see his name, its always followed with some sort of outlandish statement born of ignorance. And everytime he does, he gets his sh*t all stepped on. Attention whore?

Excellent post. Leading Marines is very different from being the captain of the swim team, the manager at Blockbuster, or even running a Fortune 500 company. I get to work with/for people every day who are in charge of government agencies and billions of budget dollars who couldn't lead their way out of the frozen food section at the grocery store.

In my experience, 99% of the people "in charge" in the civilian world manage; but don't have the faintest idea how to lead.

The Marine Corps not only teaches leadership, but will thrust that burden onto you very quickly and expect you to be able to handle it. That's why they don't throw out E-3 and E-4 enlistment incentives like candy; an E-4 in the Marine Corps. is expected to not only know his/her shi$, but to be able to teach everyone below them the same and lead by example. Not that they always do, but that's the standard they're held to as noncommissioned officers. The idea that someone could come off the street and do that in the Marine Corps. is just ridiculous.

Right now im pretty high off pain killers because I just got out of surgery. So my spelling comp is not the best.

When I said I hated fallowing I meant i rather lead. In the sense that im responsible and set good examples for others. I have always been cpt of every team I have been on (cept a few.)

What do you want me t look over my self and go, "ya know im a bad leader, I cant handle ****! I should never want to gain responsibility"

Leaders are made, but I think I already have that some of trait.
