Basically, I've looked over threads, and haven't found anything substantial enough not to ask my question.
What all do you have to go through in order to become a Dog Handler? I realize that once you choose your MOS field, in this case Military Police and Corrections, you cannot necessarily choose what you are going to do within that field, but I did hear that if you are an aspiring Working Dog Handler, you must write an essay while at Fort Leonard Wood, MO training for your Military Police MOS in order to attempt to go to the 12 week training school for those wanting to become Dog Handlers. Just wondering what your input all was.
Also, I was wondering when one can participate in recruiter's assistance? I know that by doing that, I can earn points towards promotion, which will enable me to become a Dog Handler if I work hard enough in my MP training at Fort Leonard Wood, correct? Can you do Recruiter's Assistance directly after Boot Camp? I know that the USMC is looking for those interested in doing recruiter's assistance within my area. :] I'm willing to do anything necessary to have me eventually earn the title of Marine, as well as Working Dog Handler within the MOS Military Police and Corrections.
Not necessarily, but thank you for giving the link to that document, HMA1369. That goes through procedures, but I'm trying to figure out how to better my chances at becoming a MWD handler. Thanks again; that did give me some information I was looking for.
