Ok, I run a mile in 8:47. I have decided to run 1.5 miles every day till I leave next weekend. I've been running just a mile. So today I ran my 1.5 and looked at the clock, AND IT SAID 15:36. This is a huge problem considering I leave next weekend. Is there anyway I can cut my run time down to the required 13:30 by next weekend? Is it possible? As I said, I am going to continue run 1.5 miles everday. Will this drop my run time enough by next weekend? Any info or advice is appreciated.

Thank You

Uh.........run MORE.

Seriously, all BS aside, there is no shortcuts to getting your run time down other than RUNNING more, and running harder.

Its probably not what you want to hear, but that's just the way it is.

I understand that part. That is why i am going to run 1.5 every day. I guess my question is, is 1.5 enough to decrease it by next weekend?

Thanks

You waited to long. If you are really running as hard as you can. yeah your not going to make it. Drop 3 minutes in a week and half, YOU ON CRACK!!! You should be running 3 to 4 miles a time. I had to do that in order to ship and it took me 3 months to go from a 17 min 1.5 miles to 11:40. You Might at best be able to shave a minute or so off.
IS the IST run time still 12:30?

Do a distance run of 3 miles in the first half of the day and do a about another 2 miles of intervals. Intervals are when you run hard and fast for a short time and walk or jog for a short time. If you have access to a track run 1/4 mile as fast as you can walk 1/8 mile. Repeat until you have completed two miles. what i have just said has been repeated on this board again and again. If I was a betting Man I would say you aren't going to ship.

But in case you do all you can pray for is a mercifull company commander, one that will grant you an IST waiver. Otherwise
"POOLEE08 IS GOING TO PORKCHOP PLATOON(PCP)!!!!!!! Dvlish

how come every wannabe on these boards always shows up and says "i need to lose 20 pounds by next week" or "i need to take 3 minutes off of my run time by next week".

if you ship next week, you're pretty much out of luck. as was said earlier, you should have been running longer distances sooner. you decide to do a mile and a half 2 weeks before you ship? what were you thinking?

i'm not sure what can help you now. how old are you to run an 8:47 mile or 15:00 1.5 mile? are you overweight?

too little too late.

WTF were you thinking just like most kids your priorities are backwards good luck.

You make me ill that you have the tenacity to come here one week from bootcamp and ask for help I hope you either bring everything you got or I hope you get dropped like a bad habit!!!

Whats sad is some ****head like you usually makes it then fails later on in your career.

I wish you luck in changing your direction in life and your priorities.

Okay You have been posting here since Jan08 an it is July it is 7 months and you new this was comming. yet you filled this board up with questions about what the Corps was going to do for you(aka all about your MOS post and ASVAB stuff) but you didn't take care of the physical stuff. Stupid!! Okay I can understand the pullups, I ship with only being able to do 1 pull up. but I droped 80 pounds to ship, I drop over 5 minutes off my run time, and I was able to do 80 crunches. and I can understand pullups, the are difficult to get going if you have never been able to do them. But the run is something you should have been working on first becasue that is the hardest thing to improve once you are at bootcamp!!

I appreciate your responses gentlemen. My pullups and situps are good-to-go, It's just my run. I agree it was very stupid of me. I guess I will be heading to PCP, but whatever it takes, I will be a Marine. I am actually kind of glad I will be going to PCP, I want to be in better shape. I just talked to a friend who had to go to PCP himself. He said they will get me in shape. I also told him that I was worried about not shipping, he said don't worry and that I will still ship since he did (without a waiver he said). Again, I appreciate your responses.

Thanks

You don't get the waiver when you ship. You get it after you fail the IST. The IST failers are lined up infront to of the company commander and he is told what you failed and he has the final say if you are allowed in his Recruit Training Company or you are going to PCP. How I know, Because I could only do one Pull up at the time but my crunches and run were good to go.

Keep in mind you will not start off by running 3 miles, you will run 1.5 which means that you need to do it in 14 minutes. Don't stop running to walk, pick the pace up, find a pack to run in and stay with them unless you think you can go faster. Find a way to push yourself, I think you will suprise yourself...

either way you run slower than old people ****! how old are you? how much do you weigh?

look, you may or may not have to go to PCP.but i can tell you that you don't want to go there.

there's a lot of bad attitudes in there and you don't want to spend 1 more minute than necessary in boot camp. going to PCP means at least another week of boot camp. 1 week is a long time at MCRD. you haven't heard insults like you will hear from PCP Drill Instructors.

keep running every day. drink nothing but water and stay hydrated. at this point i'd be running several times a day if i were you. 3 times a day running 1.5 miles or more.

you had better be able to excel at something else, or you will get dropped. if your pullups and crunches are good to go, then you may not be dropped to PCP. It will be at the company commander's discretion.

if i were you, i'd get off my **** and away from the computer and get on the road. right now!

Don't physic yourself out, you have 28 minutes to run 3 miles, you could almost walk it in that time limit. Find a pack and run with them found out what the halfway time (they always give it) is and figure out if you need to pick up the pace if so find another pack faster to run with. It's hard to run by yourself...heck we had guy's in my squadron who would bring their smokes with them to have a smoke break along the way, they never failed the run. We had one drunk who would get drunk off his **** the night before a PFT and do the rin under 18 minutes every time. I'm not saying smoke em if you got them on a PFT or get drunk before a PFT but making a point that it's all in your mind, your mind will let you do anything....

Ok, I have accepted the fact that I will be going to PCP. Hell, I am glad. That's one reason I joined the Marines, to be lean and fit. Another question. My friend said you had to stay in for atleast 2 weeks(First he said 1, then 2). Is this true. Even if I can pass the IST after one week, I still have to stay another week? Also, when I get done with PCP and jump in with the next platoon, will it be in the same battalion?

Thanks guys, I cant wait.

you should not accept going to PCP. it's not a good thing at all.

like I stated earlier, you don't want to be in boot camp any longer than necessary.

if you drop to PCP, you will be there at least a week and probably 2 or more. or longer if necessary until you are able to comfortably pass the IST.

you will join a new platoon in a new battalion picking up where you left off before you were dropped.

as a PCP drop from another platoon/battalion, the DIs will be on you like white on rice.

you will get thrashed several times per day and as the outsider in the platoon, you can count on being treated as an outsider as well. count on fire watch every night from 0100-0200.

you can also get bumped from your MOS school or you can lose your duty station preferences. a recruit i shipped to boot camp with had the same MOS school as me and was later dropped into PCP for not doing pullups. i'm not sure what he ended up doing, but it wasn't comm because he never made it to MCCES.

this enough incentive for you to get off your a s s and run?

I watched the poor PCP recruits when I was in, got dropped into MRP to have all my wisdom teeth pulled. Those guys got trashed twice as hard and twice as long as I did throughout boot. You don't want to go there, those are drill instructors trashing you, not richard simmons.
A trick that one of my SGT's swore by was he put ankle weights on when he ran. He said that when he ran a PFT it felt like he was running on air.

Your not getting it. you do more than what is the minumum. 1.5 miles is the minimum. DO NOTHING LESS THAN 2 Miles. beat 16:30. RUN NOTHING LESS THAN 2 Miles. The longer and faster you run the eaiser you runs will be. also it will allow you to drop time quicker. NOTHING LESS THAN 2 MILES!!! UNDERSTAND!!!

you should be running every day 3 times a day until you ship.

gsemarine94 is right. Those DIs assigned to PCP will make you hate life. they will thrash you all day because there's nothing else for them to do. no training to complete and nothing but time to fill by torturing you.

you get the picture finally? it's not nice.
