Hello, how are you guys doing? Well, I'll start off by introducing myself. I am 22 years old prior member from the Army Reserves. I joined my service at that time (18 years old) to get great benefit for my education and to serve the country.

I am now over with my 3 year contract with the Army reserves and I renewed my contract with CA National guards but now I really want to be a Marine. I will be receiving my bonus 15k shortly after my first drill but haven't gone to my drill yet.

So here is the questions. I would be really appreciate it if you guys can help me out.

1.In order to join the MARINE Crops, Am I loosing my ranks? currently E4 specialist..

2. How long is the school for Admin?

3. If I choose to become Admin in the MARINES, do you think I can finish my school by doing online school?

4. What is the possibility that I can be station in JAPAN?

5. Any chance of me being station in S. Korea?

6. What is the normal schedule for being in Active duty Marine life? As of Admin.

Please let me know. Recruiters here are such a dirt bags. Sorry for my language but they really are..

I spent eight years on active duty in the Marine Corps. I had lat moved into S-4 (Embarkation). I can tell you that I hated it. I was in a Squadron too. I wish that I would have stayed an 0311. Admin life in a squadron consists of getting into the office before 7am. Then you do admin work until 5pm. Real freakin' boring. You'll fire your weapon once a year. The only good thing is that you'll have something to do while your aboard ship. I'm getting ready to go into the Marine Reserves. There's no way in heck that I would take another admin job.

Some of the more knowledgeable Marines may answer your S. Korea question. However, I've only known of a Gunny and a Captain that was in S. Korea. I can tell you that your chances of going to either main land Japan or Okinawa are very good.

After going over what he mentioned, he was in the Army Reserves and is currently in the CA Army National Guard. It seems kind of late to ask about joining the Marines.

I am still relatively new to this forum, so I will try to stay in my lane...

First, fix your profile.

Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, you will lose rank because even though you are prior service, you have to go to MCRD. I worked in a recruiting office for about 5 months and we had non-Marine prior service come in all the time thinking they didn't have to go to Marine boot camp.

Traditional and online classes are possible.

I am not admin, but I am in Japan and see the turnover, being stationed here is very possible. S Korea is possible but not probable.

"Normal schedule" for admin is an understatement. Again, I am not admin but I have done tours in HQ, and if I had it to do over again, I would be a grunt.

The recruiters are most likely thinking that you are not a prospect because of your status with the NG. Don't go in there with an attitude and do what they tell you, which may be to take a hike until your NG contract is up.

First, Thank you all for quick replies.

Second, I have no clue why my profile is ACTIVE DUTY NAVY OFFICER.. LOL

Is this site for all Marines or Marine Grunts? The main reason why I'm trying to sign up for Admin is because I will have time for extra time, which is online school.

This site is for Marines, no matter what their MOS is. If you want extra time for online school, stay National Guard.

Roger that!
The Corps ain't no social advancement club. You wanna freebie, gov give-away plan, get a grant, loan, or stay where you are.
Ya wanna contribute something to your country, then join the Corps, everything else is just icing on the cake. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.-JFK"

+1

All prior service are contracted for PFC/E-2 when they enlist in the Marine Corps. If you're squared away and you kick a** and become the Company Honor Graduate, you will graduate as a Lance Corporal/E-3.

In regards to your $15K bonus. If you get (conditionally) released from the Guard and you make it through USMC Boot Camp, you will have to pay back whatever money you received from that bonus.

So if/when you receive part of that bonus (I'm quite sure they won't give you a lump sum. I know they didn't when I joined the USAR), it would behoove you to set aside that money.

Don't take that for granted! If you're active duty, your priority is being a Marine. If the Corps needs you somewhere, or if they need you to work during your "extra time," then by golly, that's what's going to happen! Your online school or whatever you do off duty will be put on hold.

Even in the Guard and Reserves these days, "extra time" is at a premium. If you join any military branch and/or component (i.e. AD, reserve or guard) and you forget that your purpose is to fight, and you're not open to that, then you're in the wrong business.

It's like every forum this person posts in has Tourette's Syndrome.

So, you guys are saying that I won't have 4hr/week for online school? Guys, please let's be serious. I did and ask prior Marines. Having great plan/goal and being with the great Marines are my goal.

The time you have for your schooling (online or otherwise) will depend on the optempo of the unit you belong to. Some places you will have LOTS of time, some not so.

Thank you. Let's take away the online schooling because I won't be able to start it anyways until I settle down with the Marine corps's life plus I have to wait until my GI bill kicks in which is after 24 months I believe.

The above mentioned is exactly right. What we are trying to tell you is that we can't give you a precise answer because we don't know what type of unit that you would be going to, which admin MOS that you would have. There are a lot of variables to be considered.

I'll give you two examples. I took two classes after I got back from a deployment and about six months later, my unit was deployed to Iraq. I was in a Security Forces and a few Marines that were taking classes and ended up failing due to our optempo.

I know that you talking about on line classes, but you may not have access to a computer or have time to use a computer even if you are admin. I know that on ship, that my junior S-4 Marines where on the computer when they were doing work. Like I said, there are lot of variables and we just can't give you want you want to hear because we don't want to lie to you. You may have all the time in world to take classes or you may not.
