i've been doing a bit of research, i'm on an Infantry Option Contract, how does selection of my MOS Work like? Do i just show up to SOI and chose out of the 03 field? Or is it assigned to the need of the Corps?
I wanted to know this because i'm very intrested in getting a chance to become an LAV Crewman which is MOS-0313 and maybe getting into Light Armored Reconnaissance, or LAR something that comes along with it? Its really got my attention, Thanks in advance.
It depends on which SOI you go to, the needs of the Marine Corps, and your SOI company. LAV crewman school is out on the west coast and the majority of 13s are picked from there. That said, occasionally they pull guys from East Coast companies as there needed. If you go to SOI East I wouldn't put my hopes on 13. If you go to SOI West stay 0311, let it be known tactfully that you would like to be a 13 and wait untill the selection occurs. If your squared away and your instructor knows beforehand that you want 0313 your chances are as good as anyone's.
There is. My company was East Coast and two weeks before graduation they picked 20 of our 0311s to go to LAV school. I would keep it in the back of my mind but plan otherwise if I were you.
