Right, This might be a dumb question, but a friend was asking, as he wants to fly, if Enlisted personel are quallified to fly helos. Or is that PURELY for officers. Thanks.

I've been enlisted for about 9 years. I've flown in a ton of helo's.

Hm.. Mixed answers! I am takling about Enlisted actually FLYING the helos. Do you mean riding in the helos, or flying them Nexican?

Enlisted can fly in them they just can't take the controls. That's for officers only.

There haven't been enlisted pilots in the Marines Corps ("Flying Sergeants") for decades now. Politics shot down the enlisted pilot program after WWII.

like i said, I've flown in a bunch of helo's. Never said I flew a bunch of helo's.

It's all politics. I'm sure there are a bunch of REAL BRIGHT enlisted out there who can survive the rigors of Pensacola and Flight School and make excellent Aviators, no OOPS I meant Pilots! (A little trivia. When there were enlisted pilots, in the Navy and Marine Corps, they were distinguished from the officers by being called Naval Aviation PILOTS (NAPS) instead of AVIATORS. The latter was reserved for officers. But that was all just on paper and terminology since both NAPS and Aviators flew the same machines!)

ive been at the sticks a couple times, depends on the pilot-

but as others have mentioned, the actual pilot gig- is for O's only.

Hey pete I myself have flown alot in helos for a grunt and I'll say this!

My eyes were glued on the crew chief and pilots and you can bet your sweet arrse if all three of you passed out I was flying that bioootch to my death heck if I was letting some guy that was in shock kill us I was prepared to kill us I dreamed about it lol.


Frigggin nightmares lol.

grunts in the back of the phrog were always a trip. whenever we'd hit a crosswind or lost afcs all their eyes zeroed on me like they were waiting for me to react so they could do the same. sometimes id play with em, sometimes i just tried to sleep.

i had one dude in iraq ask if he could man my .50 out of TQ. at night... with his old mono tube nvg's, lol.
