I'm a Wannabe, not a Marine.

I called the 1-800-Navy number to get some information on the ROTC program. The lady took my name and all that good stuff. She said that she has sent it to my local officer selection recruiter. It's been 2 weeks now and I havent got a call yet from him. I'm a Junior this year and I thought this was the year to start the process of applying for this kind of stuff.

Is it just a waiting game now for him to call me or should I keep calling and asking about it?

Thanks Marines,
-Foley

look up the Main Recruiting Station in your yellow pages, call and ask to speak to the Operations Officer and tell him you want to be an Officer. He will help you out...

Actually you can apply for an NROTC scholarship through your local enlisted recruiter. I assisted one of my poolees in filling out the package. The OSO can't do whole lot for you until you are actually in college, The OPSO will probably just refer you to your local enlisted recruiter. You apply your senior year as well.

Is it true that you are not eligible for an NROTC scholarship while serving as a reservist (trained and drilling)?

Not sure about the reserves. I know a couple active duty Marines that have received NROTC scholarships including my present Company Commander. I can't see why a reservist would be ineligible. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one.

Correct. There is no doing both the USMCR and NROTC (scholarship option) concurrently.

If you get picked up for an NROTC scholarship while in the USMCR, you will be conditionally released from your enlistment.

I had a buddy who tried to do both USMCR and NROTC. They told him choose one or the other.

Eligible, yes.

Doing both AD or USMCR being on the NROTC Scholarship at the sametime, no.

Right...I guess I should have added that. Had my poolee been accepted for the scholarship he would have been released from his enlistment contract.

Would I still be eligible for NROTC without a scholarship, or would PLC be my only route for becoming an officer while attending school?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes, you can go the non-scholarship route. I think by your junior year you have to decide whether you want to pursue that commission or not.

See if you can find NROTC requirements at THIS SITE.
