Just curious if there is anyone out there with experience on this issue. I am currently in the Navy serving as a Small Arms Instructor with 18 months until my EAOS. I am also an E-5 with potential to pick up E-6 before I get out to go reserves (regardless of branch.) and also will have completed my BA in Criminal Justice by the time I get out with 8 years completed on active duty. Now, if I transition from the Navy, I know I have to go and do boot all over again, but does anyone know how much, if any of a paygrade loss I will have to face if I transition into the Marine Corps?

You will come out of bootcamp as an E2 and progress through the ranks with everyone else. Your time and your service should figure into your cutting score for NCO and your added experience should give you an edge over your competition. If your squared away and pick the right MOS you could be back to E5 within your first enlistment. It would be a definite ladder to climb but if you show yourself to be competent you will not be neglected.

To ERR is human, to FORGIVE divine. HOWEVER, neither is Marine Corps Policy

Considering that you will have finished your degree you should think about going to OCS. There is a new program for officers to go straight into a reserve unit thru the OCC-R program.

I had a guy that did 12yrs in the Air Force. He came out of Bootcamp as an E-3. I believe you can pick up E-4 within a year after that.

Thanks all for your info and advice, it is greatly appreciated, it for sure gives me something to think about. Thanks GSE as well for the info on OCC-R. I didn't know about that program and it will be something I have my eye.

Because his Detailer showed him this video, and he realized that the sailors in the video were Seals and EOD, not SeaBees.

This is getting pretty ridiculous...

Maybe I'm just a racist, but I don't recall "sus.picion" or "Ja.panese" being bad words.
