Welcome to the Wannabe Forum. You don't have to be a poolee to hang out and this thread is just for you. We admire your enthusiasm and believe it or not many of us were just like you back in our own time.

So here is your chance to belong and talk to each other. The deal is you can't give each other advice. You can only share your experiences and dream of one day becoming a Marine. Fair enough?

Marines, please indulge this old timer on this as it seems we've got a lot of youngones who have no vehicle to express themselves in. What say we give this a shot and see how it works out? If it doesn't or gets out of hand, one of you Mods can always shut it down. Let's see what they've got. Many thanks.

I'm 15 (16 on Monday) and I've wanted to be a United States Marine since 3rd grade, I wanted to join the Air force but on the history channel they had a show about how the future of fighters was all unmanned and after that show there was a show about the Marines and how they always needed "boots on the ground" and how they were the "best of the best" and thats when i decided to join the Marines. that was back in 2001 at the grand old age of 8, then 9/11 and that sealed the deal of what i would do with my life.

Right now the i can ace the PFT, and I've had a 4.0 all though high school so far (I'm a sophomore) so I'm not to worried about the ASVAB and i have no medical problems so they only thing that is a problem is waiting to join! I talked to a recruiter and he told me to come back summer of 2009, but I've come this far whats another year, right?

Right. Now enjoy your life. It's whole bunch of hurry up and wait in the Corps. Enjoy it while you can.

Sir, I'm 15 also, 16 in August, I have about the same time to wait, but I try to keep the Corps in my daily life. I PT with my recruiter(s) as often as possible. It really brought me back on track in my life since I made my decision. I was failing in school due to cutting and slacking off in a specialized school, but I've improved greatly. I'm still not as good as I should be, but old habits are hard to break and I'm working on it. And its all thanks to keeping the Marine Corps in mind all day, everyday, sir.

All you hard chargers out there might want to check out the links Hollywood just provided as they're great youth organizations who do wonderful work.

If you don't have one of them in your area or are open to something a little different, try this link for Naval Sea Cadets. They run a outstanding program with great summer training including shipboard seatime and indocs like SEALs, Seabees, Aviation and music.

http://www.seacadets.org/public/

Try a websearch to see whose around. Who knows, you may be plesantly surprised because it's not about the uniform but rather the life building experiences.

Marine_Wannabe1234: Here is a thread that has a lot of good advice for getting into shape. That is, if you go ahead and read through a good portion of it.

On another note: Yesterday I went to the MEPS station near Richmond, and Enlisted in the DEP. It was an amazingly fun day, and I cannot wait until Bootcamp. I ship out on July 14th with a contract to be a technician for either Fixed wing/rotary wing aircraft, or an air crewman.

15 (soon to be 16) high school sophmore here. Hopeful future Marine Officer. I've wanted to fly ever since I was little, but due to a health condition, the DoD says that's a no-go (as well as HALO jumping). I'm currently looking at either the infantry or HUMINT fields. When the time comes, I'm going to apply for a Marine-Op NROTC scholarship at either University of San Diego or San Diego State.

I'm a Cadet Master Sergeant in the Civil Air Patrol, and have been in for three and a half years. I'm currently heading the effort to start a new squadron at my high school (should be done within a few weeks).

My mom got extremely offensive about me even thinking of joining. She would cry and say that I would just be throwing my life away, and how I should go to college instead. I told her that I will go to college...in eight years from now. Anyway, to make a long story short, she now supports me 150% and I ship off to Paris Island on July 21. My MOS is 03XX.

To Parents of Future Marines

Dean wrote this back in December. Print it out, give it to your parents. If they have questions, have them get in touch with us, we will be more than happy to talk with them.
