How long is Marine Intel(Delta Delta) AIT. As I understand from speaking with my recruiter I will be sent to Virginia Beach for my AIT, however he has absolutely no clue as to the possible length of it. I'm sorry if this is a redundant question. I searched the internet and these forums for about an hour and a half before posting this.

First, the Marine Corps does not have AIT. That is an Army term. Secondly, "DD" is the enlistment program. This consists of 5 MOSs that you could be assigned if you enlist under this option. They are 0231, 0261, 2621, 2631 and 2651. Do a search for those MOSs.

I couldn't actually find any course lengths, but found a page with good descriptions of the courses, themselves (I know, not that helpful).
http://hqinet001.hqmc.usmc.mil/dirint/Formal_Schools/explanation_process.html I know the school is at Dam Neck, VA, near Oceana Naval Air Station. It's a nice place, from what I saw, but I was only there for two weeks. Joint school with both Navy and USMC. |

Sorry for the Army refrence, most of my friends went Army and for some reason my recruiter uses the term AIT as well.... Thanks a ton for the links. So as I understand it my schooling will vary depending on my exact MOS? At what point will I select that? As of right now as far as I know all I chose was the intel field and not my exact MOS unless my recruiter chose that for me.

Your schooling will depend on the MOS, different MOSs have different school lengths. Unlike the Army, you do not get to choose your specific MOS, if you choose the "DD" enlistment program, the Marine Corps (not the recruiter) will choose one of those in the program for you. It depends on a variety of factors, not limited to your ASVAB scores, availability of school seats at the time, etc. Dam Neck is located in Virginia Beach, just south of the "Beach Area" itself. If memory serves correct, there is a beach available on the base since you wont have a car there during school. |

Well, I scored a 98 on my ASVAB and all my lines were 136's, but what I'm taking from your statement and the fact that DD has a fairly high req. as it is my specific MOS will be primarily chosen based on need. Now that you say that, I do recall the Army recruiters big selling point outside of the signing bonus was that they "guaranteed" your job where as the Marines did not. Just to clarify I have no choice regarding the MOS and it's not like the enlistment choice where it's on a first come first serve basis?

Read previous post, If you enlist under the "DD" program, you will be given one of those 6 MOSs listed. |

Sorry if my questions seem redundant, just wanted to make sure I was understanding you correctly. Thank you for the help.

This is an older post, but I'll reply in case you're still interested.
I don't have any experience with the 02xx occ field, but as far as the 26xx MOSs go...The length of your schooling is different between the MOSs and it's partially dependent on you. For 2621s the school is about 3 months, 2631s it's about 2.5 months, and 2651 course is around 4.5 months long. All of these times are, for the most part, the minimum amount of time you'll spend IN CLASS. I don't remember the exact grading standards, but if you fail a certain amount of tests you get dropped to the class behind you, and if you continue to fail you get dropped from the course completely and are given another MOS. Now, one other thing that you have to keep in mind is school seats and the fact that you require a security clearance to even begin schooling. You will not be able to start schooling until you are cleared for, at minimum, an interim clearance. Some people wait up to a year to be cleared, while some don't get their clearance at all. Once again, if you are deemed unfit for a TS/SCI clearance, you will be given a different MOS. But in reality, you really shouldn't worry about how long your school is going to be. Get to boot camp, complete it, actually receive what MOS the Marine Corps gives to you, go through MCT, and then you can find out all the information that you want from the Marines at your school. |
