I am in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program and I told my recruiter I wanted to go Infantry and he told me that it is very competitive and I may not get it so he mentioned me choosing security as a back up. Could it be that he is lying to me for some weird reason or is this true?
Man, sounds to me that if want to do Infantry, you wanna see some combat. Maybe you should choose someother combat related MOS, maybe Tanks, or amphibious assault vehicles?
First off, HillsEastMarine, you are anything but a Marine, your screen name is misleading and you might want to get rid of it.
To the OP: When joining the Marine Corps and choosing an MOS, yes the Infantry can be, I wouldn't use the word competitive, but might take longer for a spot to open up than to say if you enlisted to be a Helicopter Mechanic. I had to wait around 8 months for a slot to open up back in 2005, and once it did I got it and off to MCRDPI I went. The rest is just history.
The recruiters have certain target MOS's they have to fill, 03XX being one of them. Just be persistent. I don't recall having any problem enlisting as an 0311...they even paid me $2,500.00 dollars as a signing bonus!
