I plan on enlisting into the Marine Corps in a couple months because im about to start my senior year. Ive been reading and reading doin research and everything like that on the Marine Corps and I know that I want to do something with engineering 100%, hopefully structural. I have a question tho. On the Marine website there is engineering on the ground like combaat engineers and infantry support, and then there is logistics enginnering what's the difference? And also my uncle is a Sgt.82nd Airborne and is on his 6th tour in Iraq and he says that ill have fun in any military branch but in the Marines your basically only taught to kill and they dont really teach you alot on your mos. Also he told me that the Marins and Army are basically just statistics and if he had to go again hed go Air Force or Navy because its an easier job and better taken care off as far as sleeping in a tent or having a window view haha. But as far as I can see Marine Corps is the only choice for me, I wanna be the best so I want to join the best. Thanks for reading and if you can give me any advice or answer any question I posted. Sorry about how long this thing is, once i got goin I couldn't stop haha. I appreciate it

Good questions.

On the training issue your Uncle is wrong. Marines train the hell out of you. Everything from Boot Camp, MOS school, and all your annual training. Trust me it's a pain in the arse.

I'll use my former MOS for this example. 28XX

Boot Camp = 3 month's min.
MCT = 1/2 month Min.
BEC = 3 month's Min.
MOS = 3 month's to a year so we'll say 6 month's

As you can see a recruit can expect to be in training for a year before he even hits the Fleet. That's planning that everything falls right into place (I've never seen that happen). The Marine Corps is famous for it's "Hurry up and wait" stuff.

Your uncle does not know everything, no disrepect entented. Ask your uncle if he has ever heard of a Harrier, or a CH46, or C130, or Cobra Gun Ship, or Hornet, or CH53, or Marine 1, or any other aircraft the Marine Corps owns. Do you think we hire out these aircraft for those who fly and fix them? Ever heard of Pappy Boyinton or Joe Foss, Joe Anderson or Harry Blot Sr?

My point is your uncle is mis-informed. We just do not let anyone fly or fix our aircraft, 1 in 12 Marines are Wingers...We have fun fixing them and those who fly them have fun doing it. Plus you get a heck of a education in the process......

I had a friend who was an engineer in Vietnam. He was helping to clear a mine field and one blew up, basically in his face. The good news is that though he lost some fingers and received other wounds he lived, got out of the Corps when his enlistment expired, went to flight school. Went to Africa as a pilot. At age 50 he sold a small airline he owned in Kenya and retired.

Marines are highly trained in their MOS. One thing you will learn. if you join our Corps, is that once you EARN the title Marine, you're a Marine for life. Talk to other veterans. One thing you'll notice is many other service veterans will say they were in the service. Marines will always say they were a Marine.

Good luck no matter what path you choose.

You would find the schools in Marine Corps and Navy are a lot different from high school...
