I put this on the "Boot Camp" forum, but I think I'll put it here too since it has to do with Marines.

So I was doing a little research today on the web about the PFT for the Marine Corps and I didn't see pushups in the requirements. They have a dead arm hang and pull ups though so I was wondering if they just stopped making new recruits going through MCRD do pushups anymore.

Any explanations would be greatly appreciated because I can't do pushups for the life of me.

Recruits may be required to do pushups in bootcamp.

Pushups are not part of the Marine Corps PFT.

Glad we have this forum for mis-guided wannabes. Where in the hell would you get the idea that Marines don't do push ups anymore? Marine Corps Boot Camp is not like the Army, Navy, Air Farce boot camps. We have the real deal in PT training, trust me you will do plenty of them. It's apart of the Day Seven you do at the start of the daily PT session, plus your like to do a few in the Pit.... Anymore questions about PT?....

I read it on that About site.
Maybe I just got confused with the regular PFT and the Recruit PFT, but thanks for clearing that up!
I'll be sure to get more pushups into my workout so I can be prepared for the physical part of bootcamp.

Once you get tot he fleet depending on your MOS PT may be up to you. In the Air Wing there is no Unit PT except for PFT's and those who might fail one. It was up to us to keep in shape. some do and some don't....

Yeah, I think the Marine Corps will drop push ups from its physical fitness standards when hell freezes over. Of course, I'm just guessing.

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

The push up is not an event of the Physical Fitness Test, however, in the Marine Corps you may (will) be required to do them as part of physical training.

In the 2-3 months before going to bootcamp I did 200-300 pushups every single night so it would be easy once I got there. Every time we got thrashed and everybody else was getting killed by pushing I was basically on cruise control. Yes it's a small thing but if a DI can't think of anything special for you he/she is just going to say "PUSH" and attend to something else. Learn to do them effortlessly and your life will be easier those 3 months.

Wow!
I'll try that my senior year!
I'm just a sophomore right now but for pushups I'm doing 100 a day. 50 right when I wake up and 50 right before I hit the showers at night.
I'm also running 3 miles every day; my time is around 23 minutes and I'm only 15!!
And I'm doing about 300 situps a day. So hopefully the PFT will be a breeze.
And PTing in the pit.

Mountain climbers... I saw them do that in the pit during Marine Week a few years ago.

What about 8 count body builders or burpees? Do they make you do those in the pit?

The Pit can be anywhere, it follows you every where you go. You will do every one of the daily seven in the Pit, please other things....

Mountian climbers

1 stand straight up
2 bend at the waist put hands on the deck
3 kick your leggs backwards
4 pull your leggs back to the starting postion, 5 Stand straight up

I can't...
I should've specified when I was talking about pushups.
I meant Air Farce pushups. Knees on the deck... :/ I fail at regular pushups; I go down and can't get back up.
