I would like to become an Abrams tank commander, but just recently found out that the Army restricts height to 6 feet 1 inch. Is there any similar provision for the USMC? I am 6 feet 5 inches tall. Thank you for your help.

I've seen taller come through school here. As for being a TC right off the bat forget about it. You'll have to work your way up to that Loader, Driver, Gunner, Then TC.

As a matter of fact I did, and if you did the same, you would find that it makes no mention of physical requirements, other than basic physical ability.

Thank you for your input. I was unaware of that and I'm actually glad that it is as such. I would enjoy serving in any of those stations, and I'd preffer to have some experience being in the position of those I'm responible for. Out of curiousity, is there any predictable time table for how you are promoted from one tank position to the next?

No real time-table, It'll look something like this though.

Pvt-LCpl Loader or Driver
Cpl/Sgt Gunner
SSgt/GySgt TC

Thats generally what ranks you see in those positions.

Chances are as well the only time you would be driving is at school, The drivers station was not designed for tall folks.

Unless you are a really awesome LCpl and make gunner fast. There have even been LCpl TC's. But the above are generally true.

Thats why I said generally. Infantry Squad Leaders are supposed to be Sgt's but I've seen LCpl's in the billet.

You still sitting in the Gunners station?

I give you tankers a lot of respect. Man, we would get back from foot patrol with our tankers in support. We (infantry) would fill ammo, clean gear/wpns, chow up, restock gear and rack out. The tankers would clean and maintanence their tank, then refuel them, then clean their 120, 2x 240's, their .50 cal, then they would clean their primaries, etc etc they were always working. I did my best to make sure they rarely stood post.

HollywoodMarine, I feel your frustration! Big Grin In browsing these forums I've seen MANY identical threads. I, however, learn from other's mistakes. I've found every answer I need with the "find" button. Who says a little homework doesn't pay off? Wink
