Ok, I know that I am going to be subject to many mockeries because of this question, and I might even end up becoming turd of the week, but this is just an honest question that I cannot find the answer to anywhere. Besides this is the wannabee forum, for wannabees, therefore me, so I'm going to ask a WANNABEE QUESTION Smile.

Is military life compatible with Canine ownership?

NO I am not saying that I absolutely have to own a dog or I am not going to join the military, so please if possible spare me the "Don't join the military if you want to own a dog" etc. It's just a question that I have always wondered about.

Thank you,
Steve.

If you live in the barracks, 100% not compatabile. Can't have animals in the barracks. Or around them. If you're married and live out in town, then yeah it could work fine.

It really helps if you have an MOS that is compatible with owning an animal. Being Adminstration at a Marine Corps Base (non-deployable) was great for us bringing our Rottweiller out to NC and then onto CA with us. Hubby was deployed all the time, but I kept the home front.

I want to go 03XX..That would make owning an animal a No-No I guess.

We had both a barracks dog and cat on Pendleton back in the stone age. Dog was a lush, would only retrieve a rag soaked in cheap scotch. Cat was a spazz, fell off the squadbay roof and landed on it's head more than once. When the unit moved to the stumps some short-timer adopted both of them.

yeah we had a few strays that were unofficially adopted around the barracks.
Not to be confused with the "barracks rats"
