Ok, So i am supposed to go to MEPs next weekend(supposed to go yesterday), but lately I have been having second thoughts. I definately want to be a Marine, no question, but I am an only child. This has been popping up in my head lately. My parents signed the papers(mom cried while signing), but only so I would be happy, not neccesarily because they wanted to. If something happened to me, they would be devestated, and this bothers me. I am not worried about going in harms way, just with leaving them without a son. I love them both deeply, and they have been the best parents a person could have. Any of you guys been in a similiar situation? Are you an only child? Any advise or responses is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

I am an only child, but I was already 18 when I spoke with the recruiter. You said that Mom only signed the papers to make you happy, but come Graduation Day she will be very proud of you for what you will accomplish.

I knew that if something happened to me, it was for the greater good. Remember, the Marine Corps instills self sacrifice and service to others, that just doesnt mean putting up with BS or going in harm's way. Think of all the Marines that have come before, their sacrifice enables you to live in freedom and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

you just have cold feet. you ship off next week, everyone gets it in some shape way or form. You'll be fine. Don't worry about it and enjoy being with your family and friends.

How would you know? Responses like this are why only Marines are allowed to answer questions here. Read the rules.

In Iraq, all MOSs have been exposed to hostile enemy action, and suffered fatalities due to such.

The "front line" no longer exists, in the manner you refer to.

Seems like you have to decide what is most important to you. The Marine Corps can't promise you any "out of harms way" duty.At htis point the choice is still yours, think about it some more.

If you want to give in too much to your worries, then I would re-consider joining.

True, everyone has their worries and concerns. But if you're going to give into them and not learn to control them, how can you function as a human being let alone a Marine?

My bad, please dismiss that. I meant no offense by it and will remember to keep my mouth shut next time.
