Roit, I got a problem here, I am allergic to shellfish, and gellatin. Now, the reason i'm allergic to gellatin might be the fish bones in it...but I eat fish. so I don't know. Now what I want to know..Is there any shellfish parts and fish parts in the MRE's and stuff?

Allright, Thanks alot. I have to get a waiver right now to join because i'm allergic to the shellfish. And since you say you only encountered one thing like that, i am not gonna worry about the MRE's. My mother was freaking out because since some of the stuff in the MRE's is processed, they might put other stuff in there. Ah well, thank you.

To be blunt, I doubt you'll get that waiver.
Generalized reactions to foods usually gets you a PDQ.
It is because so many things are processed and it poses a serious risk of death.
I had one kid that didn't tell me he had an allergy to peanuts. He thought he would just avaoid things with peanuts in them,. He forgot to think about the fact that things are cooked in peanut oil sometimes. It almost killed him.

It's good that you told the recruiter about it, but I doubt you'll get the waiver.
I could be wrong though. It happens occasionally

If they were doing a pre-screen and you got approved to go up, then you are more than likely going to make it in.
Your allergy must not be that bad or does not result in a generalized reaction, like airways swelling shut.

Well, Gelatin almost killed me once. But who knows. Maybe I dont' have to worry about having Gelatin shoved down my throat. Right away my recruiter told me that I should be getting in though. Otherwise I doubt they'd even waste the time on me right?

If they feel you have a good chance, then they work with you. If there is no chance they usually tell you up front.
Some recruiters are very new and just don't know the difference yet.
If you are allergic to all forms of gelatin, what about gel-caps for medicine?

so what about an alergy to peanuts. will that compromise my getting in to the corp. and whats a PDQ.

i preaty much eat anything made with peanuts (acept with peanut oil or peanuts actualy in them) and all kinds of prepackaged food and have never ever had a problem.

the only time i had a problem was when i ate a bounch of peanuts and found out i was alergic to them.

to the allergies to shellfish... i'm very much allergic to shellfish and never had any problem with chow when I was in. Just use common sense when you go through the chow line.

i started searching the net on the subject and found that military bases in the U.S. carry "peabutter" for soilders/marines and there families as a peanutbutter substitute.

not to argue with anybudy but if they don't let men and wemon with a peanut allergy in why would they need to sell a peanutbutter substitute.

i know some one is going to say "go ask your local recruter". well i was going to go today
thats why i was on here to get some extra info before i went and saw this allergy topic. im not going to wast my time sighning papers if i wont get in.

Base commisary's (grocery stores) carry food for paople on that base/post.
There are dependants on base that would require peanut alternatives.
As well sometmes people become aware of an allergyonly after they enlist.
Technically allergy to bee-stings is a disqualifier., but you see service members carrying around bee-sting kits and still in.
Sometimes people develop allergies later in life.
If it happens and they are already in, then they are accomodated.
Sometimes an allergy isn't significant enough and it gets waivered.
Discuss it with your recruiter and he will advise you an the next steps.
