My recruiter says the DEP is the best way to save a spot when the enlistment date comes around. Do I have to actually save a spot to sign up for the infantry, and can I be in the Delayed Entry Program and choose when Im going to ship out?

James...you have more posts than I do and have been registered for over a year and you still haven't joined? Also if you're userARMY, why are you posting on a Marine forum???

I know its strange. Ive been interested for a while. When I first signed up to mil.com I was into the Army. I've now got one year of school left before I enlist in the Marines and I have been talking to my recruiters the past few weeks.

I would urge you to ask a recruiter this question.

The recruiter told me that the DEP was the best way to ensure I get the job I want. I want to know if that is true or not.

Well, if you sign up "now", there may only be certain jobs available (based upon what the Corps needs at the time, scheduling for MOS schools, etc...). Whereas, if you sign up in the DEP, there's more control about when you leave (and therefore, more ability to meet the school convening date for the MOS you want).

In other words - listen to your recruiter!
