Hey guys I guess I can say im kinda dissapointed. I mean I don't know if I should be happy or dissapointed I just went to meps and taken my ASVAB and scored a 34. Its passing, but this is my third time taking it. First time was a 24, second time the score was a 28, and now i got a 34. Im just dissapointed that if I dont get the job that I wanted what should I do? Should I wait 6 months to get the job that I really wanted, or just join with what I can get?
Whatever make you happy. We can't really tell you what to do. If you joined now and got an MOS that you would hate, then the next 4-5 years of your enlistment would be misery.
However, you might enlist now and get lucky. Who knows. The point is, you need to make your own decision. Afterall, this is your life here.
For me, I wanted to be in aviation field so I waited until the slot opened up. My recruiter was not too happy but he did not have much of a choice.
Seeing the history of your ASVAB scores no recruiter in his right mind would allow you to retake the test. In my opinion if I were you I'd play it safe and stick with the score you have and once you're in try to lat-move into a different MOS. OR if you're going to be in the DEP for a while study some math and english and keep taking the EST (the practice test your recruiter has on his computer)until you get a score of at least 50 and then retake it. But as it stands right now you barely passed so I wouldn't wouldn't risk it right now.
How were your line scores?. I had poolees that scored low overall but had good line scores.
Also consider if you retake the ASVAB in 6 months and drop below 31 your stuck with that score for yet another 6 months. See what programs are available to you with your current scores and go from there.
I would take another hard look at your scores. Seems to me you've improved each time so how are you going wrong when you're making progress? Kid you're displaying everything that makes a Marine right here and now so keep hanging in there and follow your own thoughts. It's your destiny. Best of luck Future Devil Dawg. I'd troop with you.
