So I asked my recruiter: "being in crash fire rescue, would I ever-" and before I could finish my sentence,

he said "No."

"You didn't even let me finish my question"

"I know what you're going to ask" he said.

"what was i going to ask??"

"If Marines would ever fright fires like the ones going on at Pendleton."

"... you read minds now?" I asked in sarcastic amazement

"yea they teach it in boot camp" he says.

I laughed and the conversation ended there because I was satisfied with the answer (no). Then the next day I go and read this

So whats the real answer? Are the Marines they are planning on sending part of fire crash rescue programs, or are they just any volunteer Marines eager to fight some fires? And how will they collaborate their forces with the firefighting citizens?

They will NOT be sending untrained Marines to fight fires...however there may be other duties related to what's going on...

Marines have fought major fires in California in fact I believe my old unit 3/2 while at 29 Palms were used to help efforts to fight a fire during the 90's.Also Marines were used to contain the L.A riot over Rodney King.

help efforts in one thing...directly fighting fires is another...just what the Marine Corps needs is a bunch of untrained troops getting caught in some canyon in a firestorm...that would be swell, wouldn't it?

Zero....The Corps has Marines trained to do a variety of jobs.

If called upon, through the appropriate channels, we respond.

Only at weapons ranges. If there is a fire, they send the whole company out with flak jackets into the flames in order to beat the fire out that the tracers started.

You think i'm kidding, too..........

Not kidding. We used to do that all the time.

I'm surprised you never heard of that. All of the units I've been to did that. I figured it was a Corps-wide thing.

Usually the order to fight the fire sounded alot like: "Boot-up, Mother****ers!!". Followed by a sea of green uniforms running downrange with their old-flak jackets held over thier heads.
