Never call Marine infantry "idiots"
Posted
I just enlisted in the Marines on a open contract. Is there anyway I can change this? I was told that most open contracts end up as infantry. I don't want to be one of those idiots. I think I would like to be a something like Air Traffic Control.

I went Open Contract and do not regret anything. I was told I probably would wind up: Infantry, Cook, or Motor T

Got Motor T and enjoyed my enlistment

FUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU ALL! Big Grin

for saying this:

Open contract has nothing to do with his steamy award.

The funniest part about the whole post is that I never met anyone in the Infantry who came in under an open contract (for you old timers out there I understand that it used to be different). It is probably one of the biggest myths going. Along with "if you fail out of your MOS school, you will be a grunt". The Marine Corps doesn't have much of a problem filling the Infantry ranks; a large percentage of people who join the Marine Corps do it for the sole reason of serving in a combat arms MOS(myself included). Every open contract in my boot camp platoon got either Motor T or Cook.

All my cooks in Iraq were open contracts.

They were definitely not the brightest, either. Go figure.

100% correct Sir. I had a harder time filling aviation slots than I did Combat Arms slots. I also noticed while on RD that there seemed to be a link between higher asvab scores and a desire to be in a combat arms MOS.

I agree he deserves the award, everyone in the Marines knows that if you are not combat arms then you support combat arms.
