I'm asking mainly a recruiter, but anybody who knows for sure go ahead.
I'm currently enrolled in the Navy DEP (delayed entry program) set to leave mid march; but... I'm having second thoughts (joining the Marine Corps). If I drop out of DEP, do I have to wait or can I go straight into the MC?
I'd like to leave asap if I did.
Don't tell me to talk to my recruiter because I'd like to run it by here first. I'm hoping an online recruiter can help me out.
(Going to post this on the Navy board also, please don't give me replies about double posting.)

First you need to talk to your Navy recruiter and tell him you want released. A Marine recruiter can not and will not help you get out of your navy contract. You'll have to go back to MEPS to change your paperwork but the ASVAB and the physical should still be good if it was within a year. But talk to your Navy recruiter first.

You NEED TO ACT LIKE A MAN instead of a SHY FOUR YEAR OLD LITTLE BOY and talk to your recruiter face-to-face!
You don't want people to give you sh**, but you act like a little boy, GET REAL! How can you grow if you can't face your recruiter about your change of mind? How can you become a Marine or anyother service member?
If you don't want to act like an adult, DON'T JOIN ANY SERVICE!
I talked to my navy recruiter, and like I thought, I don't think he was truthful with me. He told me I signed the contract and it was illegal to back out, which... I know that's the whole point of DEP, so people can back out, change, whatever without getting prosecuted. I then talked to the marine recruiter over the phone, who acted like he didn't want to deal with me until he asked me my asvab score, and then he was more than happy to look into it. He did tell me if I went through with change, it'd be minimum of a month before basic. In the end, my Navy recruiter is an as5, I guess he is just one of those people. I fully expected him to say something like that, which is why I came on here looking for a straight answer. Thanks, Manny
Off course he is mad..he is taking a DEP discharge!! Which means he will have to go find someone else to take your place. Is it illegal to want out of one branches DEP program and get into another brance DEP program?....No it is not!! It is your choice!! However you will have to wait for the Navy to Dep Discharge you which can take from 1 day to 365 days! But be far warned, the Marine Corps and the Navy have very different weight standards and such and just because you may have been qualified for one branch doesn't necessarirly mean you are qualified for the other one!
