I have now decided to join the United States Marine Corps, but I am having trouble deciding about an MOS. I have read everything about nearly all the MOS's on about.com, but it doesn't tell me enough to help me make a decision.
So would y'all in the Marine Corps mind telling me the jobs you've had, if you've enjoyed them, if their in need, if they sucked, etc... Any responses will be appreciated. |

If you enjoy living outside in harsh climates for prolonged periods of time, carrying a lot of weight on your back, being hot/cold/tired/miserable, and you get to shoot cool guns ( |

If you're looking for a more technical MOS...I'd recommend looking into the 2600 field. I'm personally a 2621 and I absolutely love it. The schooling is at pensacola, florida and it's absolutely beautiful. The duty station selection is pretty good as well...you have a lot of options. But yeah, if signals intelligence is something that interests you, you should look it up.
Tip of advice: you might want to give people an idea of what kind of things you're interested in. It may give you more helpful answers. |

I don't really know what I am interested in (which is the problem), but I don't think my EL or MM scores will be very good so that is somewhat limiting. I am pretty strong in math and english though so my GT score should be good.

That's Mr. HollywoodMarine to you. |
I seriously doubt that, and here is an example:
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, you have been using improper English. |

I know its incorrect, but I chose to type it anyway because it is how I speak. This does not mean I am weak in English it just means I like to say y'all.
So HollywoodMarine what is your MOS? Do you think it was a good choice, or do you wish you had chose a different MOS? If I made any more mistakes in my English feel free to point them out. |

I am not doubting your communication skills. It's your spelling that sucks! I have served along side Marines who have used regional dialects and words such as "Wicked, Schlep, Hella, Pinche, etc." There is a time and place when to use certain words when communicating with others, and this is not the place.
I take it you haven't figured out how to click on profiles. However, to answer the second part of your question, "I loved it, and I am glad I didn't pick anything else!"
As I had mentioned above, speaking English with a regional American dialect, or slang is not a pet peeve of mine. Improper spelling is. |

OK thanks for your input on my question. I do know how to use the profile I just didn't think of it.
I have another question though (about spelling) what is the proper way to spell y'all if that is wrong? I have never seen anyone type it besides myself. |

It is either "you-all" or "all of you" for proper spelling. |

PapaVictor what is/was your MOS (sorry if it was on your public profile, but I couldn't find it) and do/did you think it was the right choice? Or do you wish you had went with something else?

Josh are all the MOS's in the infantry (03xx) the same as far as PT and long rucks in the fleet? The difference is mostly responsibilities when in a war zone?
And if so why do you think 0351 is better than 0311? or any of the other 03xx's? Thank you. |

You should talk to your recuiters. Most offices have Marines in different MOS'. My recruiter was in COMM and I ended up going SIGINT. Which is a very good job to help me once I'm out. I've got a bunch of buddies that were 03's then lat moved to other fields. If you are young and have some sense, infantry is the heart of the corps and you'll do a lot of cool stuff.

Well, for the most part and from my experiences yes, with some exceptions, but keep in mind I’ve not been in the Active Duty scene since 1996. When I was in the line company 11’s tended to hump a little more than the Weapons Company Marines (*Wpns Co were usually vehicle mounted). I was a 51 attached to a line company so I rarely had the luxury of the typical Wpns Co Grunt. I personally don’t think that any 03XX MOS is “better” than the other. As mentioned, I was an 0351 but spent the majority of my time with 0311’s doing 0311 stuff. With the exception of setting up and deploying the Dragon, we fell into ranks beside the 11’s and did the same job. I went in a guaranteed 03XX / Infantry contract and really didn’t care which specific Grunt job I received. Looking back I think I was fortunate to get 51 and have the variety of experiences that I did. Good luck. |

Thank you-all for the responses.
A lot of you have said that you like your MOS and would recommend it. Anyone here that did not like their MOS and would recommend against it? |

My kid is an 0811.
He says that if you like digging lots of large, deep holes, in a short a time frame, in rocky ground, or ground full of tree roots, in 100+degree heat, with a pick and shovel, then you want to go into artillery. I tried to talk him into becomeing a Winger like his ole man, but you must realize that I am the most ignorant human that ever drew a breath upon this green earth. Or was. |
