Sit down and have dinner with your folks.

Take a long walk in a park with your girlfriend.

Ride down the street in a car full of friends.

Go see a movie, catch a ballgame, do something fun!!!

Ever stand on a street and really see the people walking by? Why? Whats stopping you now?

In short, live your youthful freedom to it's fullest now because very soon you'll be caught up in a change that truly lasts forever. Make lifelong memories as you live each day in the here and now because the future will be here soon enough and everything will take care of itself then.

Do you believe you will graduate boot camp and become a Marine???

Then whats stopping you from living now???

Know what we did before the internet???

The above. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

+1 Dean....

I think it was simplier for us without the internet. I did all those things you mentioned. Lived my life to the fullest the last few weeks before I left for boot camp.

I studied my general orders and Code of Conduct, got my affairs in order, and did some running.

For me, part of the excitement was the unknown. It still is to this day.

here's an idea for a good "How not to prepare for Marine Basic training" video.

(queue black and white film reel with Little Johnny looking concerned)

Narrator: "Hello Johnny. what's with the worried face?"

Little Johnny: "I'm going to Marine basic in a month and i'm not sure what to do. I go to military.com and ask stupid questions and all those guys do is make fun of me for being dumb."

Narrator: "That's okay Johnny. We have a few steps you should follow."

1. you're overweight. it's okay, there's just more of you for the Drill instructors to love. spend your last few weeks eating all the Taco Bell and McDonalds you want. super size every meal. you're a growing boy after all!

2. PT? who needs it? you'll receive plenty of it when you get to boot camp. nevermind that you're already overweight, out of shape and you've spent the last few weeks eating nothing but junk food. the transistion will be so gradual you'll barely feel it. before you know it, you'll have a first class PFT.

3. Sleep until noon or later every day. after all, you need your rest after drinking until 3 in the morning. also, you need to be well rested for another long night of partying tonight. it's okay, the Drill Instructors will gently wake you up every morning as you adjust to waking up earlier.

4. Never learn today what you can put off till boot camp. don't spend your days learning general orders, rank structure, history, etc. you'll have plenty of time to learn these items in boot camp. besides, you are way too busy playing video games and watching internet porn. or at least you should be!

Follow these 4 steps, ignore any other common sense and self-accountability, and wait until a week before you leave to try and do the right thing.

Little Johnny: "Gee, thanks mister!"

Narrator: "No problem Johnny. Good Luck!"

That wasn't Little Johnny.

Little Johnny would never have let narrator get away without making some reference to doing his wife, daughter and/or daughter's teacher.
