I posted this in here because this is where most of the enlistment questions are raised and answered...

I got out after completing my four years active Oct 08. I tried coming back in July, but there's a ******g MARADMIN keeping me from coming back in until Jan 2010, only then can I can submit a package and hope that I am allowed to come back in. My RE code is RE-1A and an honorable discharge so I should be good there and everything else is cool. I got out as a LCPL and picked up CPL in the IRR. (I busted my ass for this rank, more so than many a CPL I know who don't deserve it and disgrace it, that's all you need to know))

Does anyone know my chances of keeping my CPL rank, my recruiter told me that it goes up to HQ Marine Corps in the package and it's reviewed on an case by case basis, critical MOS, etc... I'm lat moving to Artie's. S**t, I'm coming back in regardless, but I would like to keep my rank,I love it that much...old man LCPL and all, the **** I'm gonna get for being the LCPL with a hash mark on my sleeve.. any help would be appreciated...S/F

I too had broken time. When I came back in I kept My Cpl strips, but lost all my TIG. Best of luck.

I don't know though if they let you keep the rank when you come back in if you didn't pick it up on active duty. Do you go back to the rank you were when you got out of active? I picked up CPL on IRR status, anybody know? S/F

For what it's worth...

I went form AD Marines to Navy Reserves and got to keep E-4. I lost my TiG in regards to promotions but for pay TiS I got all 8 years (4 years AD and 4 years IRR).

The vast majority of prior service Marines returning to AD or reserves from the IRR have maintained their rank. First time I got out was as a Sgt. I didn't go IRR, had 2 years broken time and re-enlisted with my old rank.

Did you guys have your medical records when you came back in, my records were in a box that was lost when we TMO'd our stuff. Does the Navy keep a permanent electronic record, or once you out-process does it go only to the VA in a hard copy form and you have to get one from them. Or do they just start up a new one for you? My recruiter said getting a copy from the VA takes way too long, it's easier to just re-do the physical which takes a couple of hours at the most. Any info would help.

I had three medical and dental files. During my check-in, the Corpsmen started a new file while we waited for original to arrive, after my 2 year hiatus. The original and another arrived a short time later from either Kansas City, HQMC or the VA. One of those two was the original.

In regards to medical records, the area recruiting command wanted to pull my medical records from active duty because I disclosed to them the fact that I fractured my right wrist while on active duty.

Even the recruiter said I should not have even mentioned it but I figured that since it happened while on AD and I was treated at the Camp Pendleton hospital that I should just disclose it.

My recruiter told me that the records were probably gone but they wanted to do it "by the books" anyways and try and get them.

I'm talking here almost 12 years of broken service.

They never got anything from my medical records and I wrote and signed a statement that yes I fractured my wrist while on active duty, I was in a cast for 6 weeks and was on limited duty, the cast came off and I returned to full duty and have not had any problems since.

Since checking into my new unit I started a new file. I pretty much started a new everything in my SRB, pretty much just giving them a copy of my DD-214 so they could enter in my awards/medals and what not.

Its really hard to say, so far this FY they have told us in our recruiting district that any prior service guys cant re-enlist unless they were SGT or above, now that may not be everyone! just here in the 6th district, but yes it is looked at on a case by case basis.

krygiern88, are you just plain stupid? Do you remember that I Suspended you last weekend for being a smart @$$? This was a conversation with 2 Marines and not a Wannabe, you have no idea what we are yet. You have no idea what is being talked about, STFU! Then you say "Sorry Daddy" to him, like your a Marine. Thats a sign of disrepect aand I will not put up with you or this from any Wannabe. Consider this as your last warning!

Well you were correct about one thing, Thomas does remind me of Santa. Razz

However, you lose. See I'm the heavy hand around here, and you were way out of line. Carry your azz punk. Oh, and just so you know, my old azz can still out run and out shoot your azz anyday. Enjoy your vacation, punk.
