I have been interested in the joining the USMC for some time, and have been curious as to whether or not I would be capable of joining.

I have never been arrested, the worst thing I've ever done was get a speeding ticket.

I try to run two miles a day, and am working my way up to more.

I am in very good physical condition, and am attempting to meet all of the requirements to get a perfect PT score.

However, there was a dip in my health a couple of years ago where I got two very bad bouts of pneumonia that took me a while to recover from.

Also, I accidentally burnt my thigh a few months ago working with hot lead (fabricating a counterweight for a telescope).

Is there any way a burn scar and pneumonia could come back to bite me in the future? I am perfectly healthy now and have no further respiratory problems, but I'd just like to get the opinion of experienced Marines.

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

Again, make sure you tell your recruiter this, should not be a big deal, but let him know so the Doctors at MEPS know.

There is no way for us to make comments on medical issues, but disclose everything to your recruiter so that the Doctors at MEPS know about it. It is better to tell them about a non-issue, than to hide something.

I understand the medical issues, I was just trying to glean as much information as I could.

I was mostly hoping not to get a bunch of definate yes's.

Thankyou very much for your time.

A lot of Marines catch pnemonia in boot. So I dont see how it would effect your status. Though like SC says, we arent MEPS doctors and we cant answer you with a definite answer.

I would tell your recruiter and have him check, but I in my thinking you would have little to no issue being accepted if thats your only healthy issue.

Nothing you've listed disqualifies you for enlistment. However, in listing everything you're doing you failed to mention how your schooling and studies are coming along. Where are you with those?

The Corps is 90 pecent mental and only 10 percent physical which means the only thing that stops the human body is the human mind. Discipline to study and apply yourself in school carries over to your work as a Marine.

It's not just about getting good grades, it's about learning the material - and then the grades automatically come.

Now to answer your basic question: do I think you're fit to be a Marine? Perhaps the real question is do you? No one but you can ever walk in your boots so thats one best answered by you. As for my opinion - yes you are. But again, until you believe it the whole point is academic. You're a good one and I'd troop with you.

From personal experience scars won't get you especially if they are from burns and as long as there was no severe damage done (nerve damage, needed to stay in the hospital etc...) same with the pneumonia because i know of a couple of girls that were in boot with me who actually got it while they were in boot and they were put on bed rest.. so if there are no problems that are still continuing with that issue then you should be good but if anything was really severe make sure you tell your recruiter about it first.
