Ok all you other Wannabes! It's time to start doing our PT's every other day! We need to test ourselves and find out our scores! What are some of your scores? Lets compete!

Mine (when I PT'd myself last week) is 231.
And I'm not bragging by no means. There's many people on the Cross Country team that runs waaaay faster than me. There's many people in the weight room that lifts waaaay more than me in ALL lifts. I don't even consider myself good enough. Sure I can do 15 pullups, but there are people I know that can do 45 pullups! I don't consider myself that strong at all! I never said that, nor do I think I'm the best at ANYTHING. So please don't think I'm bragging. (Some guys get that impression for some reason.) |

+1 To SFR, I don't see what the point was in starting in new thread seeing that no wannabe took you up in your original thread. Good initiative on these threads, but unless you have something you want to ask about Boot Camp or something that can contribute, then you need to slow down a bit. |

Why not hang out with the other DEP's in your area? You can compare and compete with them to your heart's content and probably make some pretty good friends. If you're not a DEP, you can still make friends and hang out with them personally instead of living here in cyberspace.

If you are a poolee then you should have regular poolee functions where you can compare and compete. I personally have them every tuesday and once a month saturday. Check with your local area recruiter.

Actually, I'm not in DEP yet. I'm still waiting to go to MEPS, then I'll have to go every thursday. My recruiter got all my medical records last week, and I'm still waiting for my med read to be finished [may take a while because I have the pectus (sunken chest)].
By the way, TomHansen, could you please unlock my Contract question thread, sir? |

I'm not sure if the Marines use the same PFT scoring system as they did twenty years ago, but if they do William, I wouldn't be bragging (or even posting) about a 231. That's pretty unsat. I've read a few of your posts and what the F are you waiting for? Why don't stop being a p*ssy and just join. Forget the DEP program and just go in. And it doesn't matter if you're poor shape or great shape (if that's what you're waiting for), the Drill Instructors will just keep thrashing until you can't do anymore anyway (and even past that point) so you might as well just go. And I don't know what that sunken chest sh*t is, but if it's some kind of excuse, then you better get it resolved or you're gonna find yourself in the motiviation platoon. |

Yo Willy....been reading about you now for several days. Want to ask you some personal questions;
(hgt?) (wgt?) chest size waist size bicep size relaxed bicep size pumped shoulder width calf size shoe size when is your ship date? Instead of you wanting to test for scores, I have another suggestion for you. And quit 'testin' yourself every day, etc. If you have a sunken chest, etc. get to a gym and get on a regimen on a bench with a chest/arm routine. Work on lower body as well such as deep knee bends, calf raises, etc. Run every day. Set a goal...say train for a 1/2 marathon as a goal. Set a goal of adding 10% increase of wgt/reps per exercise on the heavy work. Also doing your work out, do pullups, waist work, etc. Integrate it into you daily work outs....not necessarily doing the exact same routine every day....but plan on working out 6 days a week. You intital set of reps should be a min of 3 Go on a special diet....you are going to need fuel. Bottom Line,,,,,,,quit dreaming and get to working. In other words put feet to your goal(s) |

I don't PT every day, just about once a week. I lift weights everday at school (as much as I can at least four days a week because my 4th period weight training teacher always makes everyone go play basketball or something stupid - there's only 4 or 5 of us that actually stay in the weight room and work out!). I was doing Cross Country(long distance running at school) but now the season's over and I do wrestling (lots of conditioning, but we only run a mile, which sucks for me b/c there's no time to run long distance after practice on any school day).
I usually do pullups and push ups through my workouts almost everyday, and ab work everyday. I usually variety my reps when I lift: one day I do 5*5, somedays I do 3*3, sometimes 10,8,6, etc. I had a way better workout regime over the summer when school was out, but because of my sucky weight training class (half the time he doesn't let us work out when every one else goes play basketball, for no real reason!), I can't do what I want to do every day. And I've also had a good diet. I've been working really hard to meet my goals. Wanting to become a Marine has made me so much more motivated in basically whatever I do. I've never felt so good in my life (like when I exercise and run, or anything, a few years ago, I never thought I could run 3-10 miles, and when I could, I never thought I could run at the pace I do now)! |

Oh, and when I lift weights, I do bench and squat 2 days a week. Power Cleans and deadlifts 2 days a week.
And about your question of chest size, bicep size, etc. I don't know yet. I'm actually kinda slim. I weigh 142 (in wrestling practice, I seem to lose a pound everday, but I actually want to gain weight, not lose it...). Waist: I wear a 32 in jeans Calf: Don't know but very skinny calfs (been working on those for years but they don't seem to get bigger, just muscularly skinny) Shoe: 11 1/2 Ship Date: Going to MEPS hopefully before Thanksgiving, so I'll find out soon, hopefully. |

Then I guess you've got about two weeks until you're standing on the yellow footprints and all hell breaks loose. Hope you like getting screamed at and called every name you can think of. Plus, since you're so small, the Drill Instructors are probably going to single you out and make you bend and thrust just because you showed up skinny.

I'm going to MEPS tomorrow. I passed my med read and I don't need any extra information about my chest (I'm relieved - all that worrying for nothing). Now I just have to pass the physical. Can't get sworn in yet because they are full and won't take anymore people this month in NC. But I'm glad all this stuff is finally happening. Thanks for all the help and comments.

Hi.....My son is 17 and is in the process of applying to the Naval Academy. All tests and interviews are complete as he is awaiting a reply. In the meantime he is dealing with marine officers for potential ROTC schlorships. A PFT test is required at the end of the month. Question is, are there considerations for those who cannot do alot of pull-ups? He is a state championship qualifier caliber wrestler in the state of NJ in the heavyweight division. He is approximately 6'2 260lbs. At the moment he can only max out at 2. Any help or suggestions? It is his dream to be a marine.....Thanks
