Hince the fact I don't want to just enlist and want to become an officer.

I thought you said math was your weakness? Not much of a speller either. Additionally, do not EVER AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE refer to enlisted Marines as "just enlisted" or again imply they are inferior to officers in any way aside from rank. I know that was not your intention but be more cognizant of what you say (or type, rather).

I never served in the Army, and I only know a handful of soldiers. Everything they do, multiply it by 100 and you have the Marine Corps. Take their gear, date it back a few years, and you have the Marine Corps.

Don't get me wrong, the Army has its place and purpose in the service. They essentially occupy what we attack/sieze. They are a massive juggernaut who's weapon systems are generally larger than ours, but who's movement is many times slower. Their initial training is much shorter and from I hear, much easier. Their physical, height/weight standards are more lax, as well as their personal appearance/grooming standards. Obviously this generalization does not apply to every single Army component (Rangers, etc).

The Marine Corps is the service where pride in the Corps, teamwork, the ability to endure hardship, being proficient in your MOS, and carrying yourself like a professional are critical. If you think you can hold yourself to the highest standards of military appearance, discipline, and professionalism, join the Marine Corps. If you want to advance your career, have a 9-5 job, get promoted relatively quickly, have long hair, and wear faded cammies, join the Army.

Now, onto the officer vs enlisted question. As a 2 year enlisted Marine and soon to be officer, I am glad I enlisted first, however I would not recommend it for you as the possibility of deployment or other training schools will tear you out of school faster than you can say Semper Fi. I would go in a heartbeat, but thats just me. I am sure most reservists would not be so stoked.

I would suggest you contact an OSO (Officer Selection Officer, usually a 1st LT or Captain in your area) and get more information about applying to the PLC (Platoon Leader Course) or OCC (Officer Candidates Course) programs. Both are available over the summer months so you do not have to miss school.

Additionally, I cannot imagine you having a 6 pack and weighing that much. You are overweight by USMC standards and I can say with 100% certainly that no OSO will accept you in that state, regardless of your fitness level (74" is 214 lbs, 75" is 220 lbs). Try to lose some weight. If you are running 6-7 miles a day and not bullsh itting it by taking breaks or walking, you will be fine for OCS, that I can tell you.

You also must be in a 4 year accredited school with GPA of 2.0 or higher and no F's. You did not mention if you were in a 2 year school or not.

Any other questions, post them up. I am certain other Marines will give more information also.

I'm 72" and 213... tape in at 15% though, and I definately don't have a six pack. Wink OCC 196 next month!

Are they actually letting you ship? Our OSO wont ship anyone outside the height/weight specifications.

Stop taking the drugs, man-up and focus. I never took that crap, just pay attention and seek help before you go popping pills to help you concentrate.

It does not matter how strong you are, if you are outside of the height/weight regulations you will get measured for body fat. I think the cutoff is 18% so you better have a ton of muscle to compensate. How fast is your 3 mile time in sneakers? Anything over 22:00 will be dangerous, and over 24:00 is disqualifying.

Right now I can do 3 mile run in 17-18 min's every time. I think I am some where around 16% body fat.

My pro bono work for the day:

So for the past year I have been taking a real interest in serving my country. I originally thought about joining the navy. But after doing some research I realized that I wanted to be a infantry man. So I looked into the army and tried to get a plan made out for me. I was going to go into Army ROTC and after college go threw jump school become a ranger. But as of late I have seriously thought about being a Marine, why is it so different from being in the army? Is it harder? I have a decent GPA ranging from a 3.0 - 3.4. My worst subject being math. Apart from that I consider my self to be a good athlete. My daily aerobic exercises include running 6-7 miles a day. I am a fairly big guy; I am 6'2.5 and I way in at 225 lbs. I am very tone for my weight/hight * 6 pack * any ways I want to serve my country to the best of my abilities. So here are my actual questions. After reading what I had planed for my self in the army do you think the Marines would be a smart choice for me? The college I want to go to offers NROTC so yeah I got that set. O I am on Adderal Xr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adderall

Is this a bad thing will this compromise where I want to take my future in the US military? I am not reliant on it at all. It just helps me keep my focus in classes like math. I only hope to serve my country to the best I can and make a carrier out of it. Hince the fact I don't want to just enlist and want to become an officer.

Sincerely Gabriel P. Fisher

a infantry man = an infantryman
threw jump school = through jump school

If the Marines are the attacking force ** on the ground in the military than why is it that the army's gear better than the Marines?

I want to be a soldier and serve my country while being able to advance my self threw the ranks and in the same time advancing my carrier. Am I looking into the right place or should I continue thinking about the army rangers, SF etc.

I'm active duty through ECP... I don't deal with an OSO or anyone else really... just a checklist from the CO, and showup for OCC.

You posted this very request, and kengardner was kind enough to do as you requested. And now you take offense with that?

And by stating you had most of them spelled correctly, if not all...are you questioning the correct spelling that he posted for you? Are you stating that you spelled them correctly, and he did not?

Sounds to me like you have problems other than poor spelling...

(Regarding the drugs - as identified at the top of this forum, medical issues must be taken up with medical professionals. No one here is a doctor who works at MEPS, so you'll have to ask a recruiter, whose job it is to find out for you).

Now, if you've got any buddies who are not on drugs, send 'em our way, okay?

No C0ckbag, you didn't use anything "out of context", you just misspelled them because you're a fucking idiot. Plain and simple. You're also not text messaging your friggin' 15 year old girlfriend about how great your Chuck-E-Cheese finger-bang session was -- You're trying to ask serious questions to a bunch of grown men that might very well affect your life.

In the real world, how you speak goes a long way to how others percieve you. In lieu of the spoken word, internet discussions rely on proper grammar and spelling to acheive that same result. No one expects you to be a fucking Chaucer, but you are coming across as a total illiterate d0uchebag when you can't even spell basic words from the English language -- Not to mention even use them in a proper manner.

I was going to help you out and try and answer your question until I saw this last post. Now you can just go and **** yourself/ Die/ get AIDS/ etc. Someone ban this disrespectful little sh*t.

He is probably going to join the Army now. If he cannot even maintain composure in an Internet forum, imagine how the real Marine Corps would have an effect.
