Today, we had a Pool event. After walking away, I think I can speak for every poole that was there, we are humbled and thankful for the Marines who have served before us. First, we started off with a little run then went for a little swim. Then we got in formation and went and had Marines, who have retired, tell about their experiences. These Marines ranged from WW II vets, to Nam Vets, to water combact survioral instructors, and finally to Marines who served their country proudly. They get together every year and see each other and catch up. The three recruiters from our area, presented the Colors followed by the Pledge of Allegiance with a moment of silence for Fallen Marines ending with Taps being played. IT was very touching to be able to experience this first hand with the Marines who did there time. A truly humbling experience that I will never forget. The next thing that happened included family members of two Fallen Marines. First, a LCpl, who was the first Female to give her life from Mississippi. The second, was a Fallen Marine, whose partner recieved a Purple Heart for trying to save his life...He was a K-9 handler. Again, very touching and humbling seeing and talking to these families. Then spending time with these Marines, talking to them about Parris Island and their History was amazing. One Marine, I remember they called him, Big Red. Just listening to him explain his days in boot camp and his time in the Corps was exciting. To all Marines, Former and Active, Thank You. I am glad that I was touched this much and even more glad that I will be apart of this groups of Brothers and Sisters. Its truly humbling.
