Awesome post. M777 looks pretty sweet. Is there artillery specific Mos for an officer or is it just artillery?

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl. |

Well what do you think if the caption under the picture reads, "Marines from Mike Battery, 4th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment operate the 155mm M198 howitzer in November 2004. The battery was based at Camp Fallujah, Iraq and was supporting Operation Phantom Fury." |

You have to swim with an DPICM round 300 yards, then sidestroke with with a gun sight held above the water then....... No just kidding. My wife says I'm a smart azz. As long as you pass swim qual in boot camp you can be anything you want.

If you are interested in Artillery, now is NOT the time to join the Marine Corps in the Artillery field.
I'm currently stationed at Fort Sill, OK awaiting classes in the 0811 field. However, the school is so backed up that is could take you months to start classes. Since I am a reservist, I have priority over the active duty Marines, but it comes at a heavy price for them. They get knocked off the roster and have to wait 5 weeks for the next class to begin. If more reservists come in, guess what? Yep, the average length that most of these Marines have been here is roughly 5-7 months. Have fun with that... As far as HIMARS, not every Marine will be given the opportunity to take classes on the new system. They currently have it set up to where only the top 10 percent of every other class will have the option to learn HIMARS. I pick up 6-09 and unfortunately will not be a class given the option to learn HIMARS. S/F |
