I did some research on the DEP and found out about it but I still have a few questions that I couldn't find out.

Is the DEP a mandatory thing to go to after signing up?

Is there a way of being able to go into boot camp as soon as possible without going into the DEP?

From what i read is that the DEP is just functions and pt that help you prepare for boot camp but you have to wait a couple of months before you get to go.

Is this correct or did I misinterpret what I read?

I haven't seen anybody that went straight to boot camp in years, but I guess it could still happen. Yes what you read about DEP is true.

Numbers I enlisted in December '07 and because of the xmas holidays I didn't ship until after the first of the year. Yes it is possible to skip DEP and go strait to boot camp. It's not likely though, there has to be a spot open and a need to fill it. By you being a male, that is not likely since there are enough males shipping out at any given time. I'm a woman so I got lucky Big Grin. But yes to answer your question is it possible, but there has to be a spot. Best of luck to you.

Is there a set time that i have to remain in the DEP or is based on how many slots are open in boot camp?

I am not sure, so take this with a grain of salt. There is no specific time you have to remain i the DEP, it all depends on next available slot. Remember there are way more males than females. There are 11 males companies with a lot of males in each platoon, some as high as 90 or so recruits. Heck my female platoon started with nearly 75. It all depends on slots. There is probably more to it, but that is the biggest part.
