I met with a recruiter about 2 weeks ago. I advised that I wanted to join and I had no second thoughts. He told me what was available and said that only reserves was open. This is fine with me.
He asked me to get 2 days off from work to go to MEPS. At my job its really hard to get a day off, especailly because I work M-F. I called him last week and told him my job might give me the 10/22-10/23 off. He said he would call me back to see if that was ok. I called him yesterday and told him that I now have those days off and I am ready to go to MEPS. Once again he said he would call me back that same day, but nothing. I am starting to feel like maybe they don't want to bother with me? I am not sure if its because I told him I would preffer to ship out on Jan, but if they have earlier I could take that as well, or maybe because I am almost 25 come March? Or is this the usual process when trying to enlist?
I am in shape and have been studying for the ASVAB, so I am not sure if they feel I am not worth the time. Thanks for any info.

Well I really want to become a Marine. And it was never on my terms, I told the recruiter I will go whenever, but my prefference was for Jan. I will contact him again next week and see what he says.
Dude, this is the only time in any of your dealings with the Marine Corps where you can play burger king and have it your way. If it were me, I'd milk this for what it's totally worth.
First, get another recruiter because this guy ain't showing you any love. Second, do the ASVAB and get the best job you qualify for in writing before you sign your final contract. Thirdly (is this really a word???) go when you want to go and screw what the recruiter says because it's your dime until you sign on the final dotted line.
Once you get on the bus you're getting the green weenie in everything you do so screw the pooch at least once before it screws you and it's coming! Trust me, it's coming so get your's now because believe the Corps is gettin' their's from there on in.
Lol thank you for the good advise. The recruiter gave me some job openings for the reserves. 2 of them caught my attention, infantry rifleman and recon. Funny thing, I asked him what was the score I needed to get on the test so that I could qualify to try out for Recon, he gave the minumum score of 35 I think? Something in the 30's? Is this true?
Ha ha ha, I don't know what that guy was thinking because it sounds like he downplayed recon which is arguably one of the toughest gigs in the Corps. We grunts like to believe they're pretty high speed low drag anyway.
Do the best you can on your ASVAB because you'll be surprised what it really takes to qualify to try out to be a rifleman. There's no such thing as a dumb grunt because it's a tough gig within itself so the best of the best are required to be tip of the spear.
