Ok so, I am 17, senior year of high school.
I was looking into the Air Force for a fire protection job, and one of my friends recently got me into the Marines idea. Sort of a spur of the minute thing, but anyways I went and took my ASVAB for the first time for the Marines today, got a 54, not to good I know, but I got the right scores in the sections I needed for a Crash fire rescue job. And my recruiter told me it is a guarantee I will get this job, and he will put it on paper before I sign. And so he is supposed to be coming to talk with my parents tomorrow, and hopefully they will sign my MEPs papers, so I can go get my physical and everything done on friday, but my dad thinks he is lying about all of this, and my mom thinks that I will be sent into combat. All of this has happened in about 3 days, because I had just started thinking about the Marines this week, and already got this done. My dad thinks it is gonna be too tough for me, but I know I will be committed to it and can get through it. This is a job I have always wanted so I can become a firefighter after. If anyone knows if all of what I am hearing is most likely correct and true, please help me out so my parents will know. And are crash fire rescue usually deployed out a lot? One of the recruiters at the office is in this job and said he has only been deployed one time for 2 years to Africa, by choice. Thanks |

F.Y.I. unless you are going reserves, your recruiter can only promise you a job field and not the actual mos. For example, let's say you wanted to an ammo tech (2311). 23 would represent the field and 11 represents the actual mos. Your recruiter can only promise you the 23 portion. The Marine Corps decides where to put you based on the NEEDS OF THE MARINE CORPS. Sorry for the caps, but it's something that wannabe's need to understand. Hope this is food for thought for you and good luck. By the way right now with the war in Afghan, in any branch (including air force) you are subject to go to a combat zone

Ok I understand.
Well I really just want to get all of my certifications so I can become a firefighter when I get out of the Marines. Do you know the different mos for crash fire rescue? And would it most likely cover everything I need to become a firefighter? Maybe I should just go with what my dad is doing and putting it off until I get more detailed information, and possibly talk to someone in crash fire rescue. I know one of the recruiters in the office is so maybe I can go over some things with them, if everything is true that I am told. |

Numbers understand this, military bases and the bases overseas are manned with civilian fire fighters. Do a search on google for crash fire rescue for the Marine Corps. But you are right, until you step foot on the yellow foot prints you are not obligated to anything, no matter what they tell you. So please do your research, but what I posted above is going to be the most important thing for you to understand.

Well, I was browsing the internet.
And if you say he only is promising me that certain field, the field is airfield services. Which only has 3 mos' in that field. And only 1 of them is the firefighting. But I am still going to go over this with him tomorrow as well as him talking to my parents. Thanks for pointing that out though. |
