Unfortunately, I am right hand dominant and left eye dominant.
I hear that crossover dominance puts me at a high disadvantage on the firing range. This is significant to me because I plan on to try my hand at recon school and I want to be as good a shot as I possibly can be.
Am I really at that much of a disadvantage on the range and does anyone have any good success stories of other cross dominant shots?
How exactly does it effect your shot, also? I have 20/20 vision in both eyes when I wear my glasses, it's just that my left eye does more work... though I guess actually having the gun in my hand would probably answer my own question.

I am right side dominant and left eye dominant. I couldn't shoot with my right eye if I wanted as it is not only horrifically nearsighted but also has a floating blind spot from a car crash ten years ago. I have shot lefty since boot camp and have never had a problem. Nobody will tell you whether to fire righthanded or lefthanded on the range, do whatever is comfortable. Once you pick however, make it permanent. If you change your mind at the end of grass week you might as well have not learned anything.
I would strongly recommend you fire using whatever is your stronger eye. Hand-side dominance really does not matter and once you get accustomed it you will not get "crossed up." I still fire pistols right handed and rifles left handed.
My son is right hand/left eye dominant. He shot left handed in boot camp and was able to get adjusted during snapping in. He told me getting used to shooting left handed was not that difficult. He shot sharpshooter.
