My son is 17 and I have agreed to sign him into the DEP. He would like to be in intelligence or a helicopter mechanic and is hoping to sign a contract within the next few weeks. As a parent, I am interested in what his job will entail. Can anyone give me a description on what kinds of jobs or missions my son would be involved in?

Go to About.com Marine Enlisted jobs. You can also find information already posted by using the find function at the top of the page here.

If you have futher questions after doing the above ask them.

I have actually seen the job description at the recruiters office and on about.com. I understand the basic premise of his job. I was wondering about some first hand experience about how he would perform his job. Would he be behind a desk more often than not or does he deploy alot? I asked his recruiter and he said he truly didn't know anymore than what was in his book of job descriptions. Would he have job opportunities after his time in service? I will do some more searching around!! Thank you!

Blake, you are a wannabe. STFU.

This person has already been advised to use the find function to view existing information and declined to do so.

Leave it to a man to assume things. I did exactly what I said I was going to do and searched around some more. Thank you for the previous information regarding the "Find" button. As you suggested, I did use it and found the discussion that was very detailed and very helpful. My son and I had a very good discussion today about whether this is what he really wants to do. I have never used this site, but fortunately it helped us understand what my son is getting into. Thank you both BigBabyBlake and jimnsc.

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

Blake,
Wannabes are to read, not post, unless it is something of which you have direct knowledge like DEP.

In order for me not to be rude, what jim said above is what we desire in the wannabes here. If you have no direct experience, which you dont, please do not post. Even if it is telling someone to look at a thread. Now, go do a police call.
