Im gonnna enlist with 1300 on my contract but is there anyway i could make sure I get combat engineer? I got an 82 on my asvab and all my scores are good. The recruiter said my placement depends on availability and smarts...i just dont wanna end up doing bulk fuel for 4 years.

Nothing at all its just not what I want to do. I know they serve a crucial position in the Corps like everyone else its just not my cup of tea.

It's all based on the needs of the Marine Corps. I enlisted hoping to be a Combat Engineer with an ASVAB score of 90. Got to MCT and found out I had be selected for 3531 instead. It happens out of about 20 Marines who had enlisted for 1371 only about 4 got selected.

If you are coming into the 1300 field, you will take more test in boot camp. If you have the score you say you do, your recruiter can promise a particular MOS.

The requirements for 1371 may have changed since I retired. Scores may have to be higher. It was on a different scale when I came in!

well I will tell you that you Will have the program code " SOU CM Construction / Utilities option" from your Recriuter Read that ... As you know the Recruiter Can not promise that you are going to be a 1371 No matter how high your AFQT Score is... The requirments for the CM Program are MM OF 95 on the ASVAB, 4 year TOE, 2ND CLASS SWIMMER UPON COMPLETION OF RECRUIT TRAINING FOR MOS 1371, Minimum Height of 66 IN for MOS 1345. now this is straight from the CM SOU as I have it right in front of me.
there are no extra test for 1371 in Recruit Training or any other MOS. just for the record We Recruiters will not nor Cannot Promise you anything.. Except for the chance to Challenge yourself and EARN the Eagle Globe and Anchor. you join the Marines to become a Marine Not for the JOB... if you want empty promises and empty guarantees then join the Army ...

Now as a 1371 I can tell you that it is in fact a fun and exciting MOS.. School is located in North Carolina..Camp Lejune, courthouse bay. if you do indeed recive the title of Marine and get the chance to Be an 1371 Then you will have a trade skill in Construction.. and also learn how to use precision Demolitions to Destroy targets or render them useless to the Enemy or to open doors and lanes for the grunts.

so I reccomend that you talk to your recruiter asap.
