My ex had been enlisted in the Marines and was to ship out a week after he was supposed to graduate in 2006, but he didn't pass the Exit Level TAKS test, didn't graduate, and then he got out of the Corps because of his mother and knee injuries from football. After about a year, he tried to get in again, but they turned him away, then he tried again this year after 2 stints in mental hospitals, being turned away again for the obvious reason.
My question is what possible reasons would have been in the first turn away?

The Exit level TAKS or Exit Level Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test is the test that all Texas public school students need to pass in order to graduate. It is math, science, social studies, and english/language arts. It is initially given in the 11th grade, but if a student doesn't meet the requirements, they are allowed to retake it every time the test is given until they pass.

i'm not sure what the "Exit Level TAKS test" is, but if he didn't graduate high school that would be a reason.

but i do know you should update your profile because it's ridiculous.

first off, as far as enlisted ranks go, E-9 is either a Sgt. Major or a Master Gunnery Sgt. and I can tell you that there is no way in hell you will be one of those by the time you're 30. (12 years in service)

the reason i tell you this is because your attitude towards our rank structure borders on disrespect, as if to say it's easy.

it's great to have high ambitions, but do yourself a favor and read the Sgt Major of the Marine Corps' bio. that is the highest ranking enlisted in the Corps and he didn't get there in 12 years.

also, E-9 is as high as you can go as enlisted, to go higher you would need to become an officer.

To ERR is human, to FORGIVE divine. HOWEVER, neither is Marine Corps Policy

Changing your profile to private is not what Caesar08 was suggesting. You need to read Rigger51's suggestions about Wannabe Etiquette.

Profile was corrected. Decided I don't want the reaming for any other objectionable content that may be on there and since I'm not sure as to what others might find objectionable or unagreeable, I have it private.

when you make your profile private, it makes other leary of helping you. we're all pretty open here and making your profile private makes us all think "what are they hiding?"

when you react to criticsm in this manner, this is what you're saying:

"I don't want to do things properly, so when I'm corrected, I'm going to pretend it's someone else's problem"

every Marine makes mistakes at one point or another. how you react to criticism and learn from your mistakes is a measure of character.

if you decide to correct your profile and make it public, you will earn at least some respect. if not, don't count on getting much help or advice in the forums.

I understand what you're saying. I accepted your criticism and changed my profile after you said something. Can the conversation now please turn back to the original intentions?

your question was answered in the first sentence of my original reply.

if it was a test needed to graduate HS, then that is probably what stopped him the first time

No, no, no. He graduated after he had gotten out of the Corps. Don't ask me how. I was just told the story.

I'm asking about the second time he spoke with a recruiter, AFTER he graduated, mom was out of the picture, and his knees had somewhat healed.

And besides, if he hadn't gotten out, couldn't he have gone to his recruiter and gotten into the DEP?

it's pretty hard to get out of the Marine Corps when he never was actually in the Marine Corps.

sounds like several items kept him from joining.

I don't have an attitude problem, you have a perception problem!

Suzy Q 08,

Was he a discharged while in DEP or did he go (and gradute from)bootcamp?

Did he do his full enlistment before he got out of the Marines?

Was he put out with some type of medical discharge for his knees?

You mentioned his mother, did he receive some other type of discharge in relation to her(ie hardship)?

The answers to these questions could be the reasons (among others)that they did not want him back the first time. However, these are moot points because of this...

His second attempt -- after 2 stints in mental hospitals in conjunction with the other issues -- makes it unlikely that he will ever get back in...

He wasn't in DEP, didn't go to boot camp, didn't tell the recruiter about his knees, his mom TOLD him to leave after he signed the papers. And the marine recruiter turned him away in..... MARCH of this year 2 weeks after he got out of the second MH.

from the sounds of it, he was never in the Marine Corps in the first place.

it sounds like he had multiple reasons for being denied a chance to enlist.

please be more specific when asking questions from now on. you are very vague and it's hard to give you a good answer.

The details themselves are vague and I gave as much info as I have.
