Well we heard confirmation from our son today. He was injured in training and it was pretty certain that he was going to be discharged.

That has changed and he will be restarting tomorrow with E Company 2/58th in week 5, he was injured at the end of week six so he will not have to redo everything.

So the roller coaster ride is starting again and I was unable to get off, and I so hate roller coasters!

But we are very happy for him and very proud of how he has weathered the adversity and stayed strong and stayed determined to do all that he can to be allowed to stay and continue his training.

Yes, the military can be a roller coaster ride at times, but so can life, as you well know. Please give your son our best wishes and prayers. [/i]

Congratulations. It sounds like his leg has healed and is strong enough to make it through BCT. I hope things go much better for him this time.

What an amazing young man! I had followed his (and your) story and find his determination incredible. A nod to you for raising this 'never give up' soldier!

I just returned from a visit to Benning where we spent the weekend with our son. He is doing well, his injury is healed and is giving him no problems, he is almost done thank God and will graduate on the 18th of December.

Our son will have been in basic for six months once he graduates and has been through some tough times with the broken bone and then right after he re-started he came down with a flu bug and says he spent a few days in hard training with a high fever but he got through it.

He looked good, seemed six inches taller and was nothing but sheer muscle stretched over bone, there was not one ounce of fat on him.

It was very good to see him and we are looking forward to having him home for the Christmas holidays.

Well our son left for basic training to Fort Benning back in June of this year, he started out with B Company 2/58th Infantry and was doing great and loving it until he broke a bone in his ankle during training.
He was told he would be discharged and all the paperwork was ready to go and awaiting the doc to sign and the commander, throughout all this he was begging them to let him stay and he happened to mention to the doc that he was being discharged for something that he had a waiver for(he has a bump on his knee that is some kind of calcium deposit).
Well as it turns out they had not looked at the waiver, so now they had to tear up his paperwork and go med board to discharge him.
He was still begging to stay and right near the end he managed to talk to the doc and somehow change his mind and he was sent back to training with E Company 1/50th.
He was so happy he told us he was willing to start all the way back at the beginning, as it turns out he got to restart in week 6 (he was injured in week7)
Well I am proud to say that he got his crossed rifles on Honor Hill Friday and is now in the recovery stage. We will be flying out there in a little over a week to watch his Turning Blue ceremony and then his graduation.

We are very proud of him, proud of him for serving, proud of him for refusing to give up and for fighting to stay in, and we are proud of him for finishing well. Upon graduation he will have been in the Army for 6 months, all of it spent in basic training and some of it spent under discouraging conditions and yet he never quit.

Good job son! We are very proud!

He graduated on 12/18 and we got to go out and pin the blue cord on. He is now stationed at Ft Lewis and from communications received he is very happy and is loving the Army.
As far as we know his unit is preparing for a deployment this August.

I shall pray for him. I have not yet heard anything. But then my son doesn't graduate til March. He is in B co. I am praying for no deployment. I have a feeling that he will be in Korea. I just hope I get to spend some time with him this year. Entirely, different life than what he is used to. He is 18 now. So young.
