just saw that on usps.com, but it said "except to military Post Office facilities" so I think we're good If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will let me know asap...
OMG I had no idea about the free boxes etc. Thanks so much for telling me. One quick question though. do i need to put a global sticker on a priority mail flat rate box?
I saw a bunch of priority mail envelopes and boxes but do those go outside the U.S.? Or do i need to put one of those global mail stickers on it?

Not sure how you mean global. If it is going to a service member overseas then it is still considered going to the US because it goes through an office in the CONUS first and then gets shipped overseas. You will have to fill out a detailed customs form.
now if you are sending it to a friend who lives in another country like Canada, Mexico, UK then that is totally different, there is a global priority box and envelopes for that. The regular and flat rate priority boxes or envelopees are only for going in the US.

It most likely means Iraq itself. If you are sending things to those deployed there then that is totally different. The packages sent go first to one of the special military post offices in the CONUS (i believe there is one on the east coast and one of the west coast, not sure if there is more than that) and then it is sent out from there.

Yes you can use those priority boxes because it is going to a US Postal address not a foreign address. Even though he is overseas, all their mail goes through a military post office FPO/APO here in the CONUS first and then goes wherever it needs to go. It is the same for ships that are out in the middle of the ocean as well.
I knew about the free boxes and forms, but I'm glad to hear they're back to giving out free packing tape! I'd go through almost a whole role on a box or 2 since I was filling them to the brim... and that was the biggest priorty boxes. My nephew is going back in Jan. and it's a good idea to send the smaller packages more frequently. I'd get caught up sending so much at one time that I couldn't afford to send more for quite a while after! Great info!
wow this is really cool! so if they are military care kits than do they verify anything about the soldier you will be using the stuff to send to them? or basically is it anyone can get this stuff for free and say its for military. I am a military spouse just wondering how it works.

They don't necessarily have to be for the military only. I have used the boxes and forms for other people w/o a problem. So you can use them for whatever you want.
Originally posted by palatosgirl: I tell you flat rate boxes have been a life saver for me. You can get a package of 24 for free from the US post office and it is $8.10 to send them and believe it or not if you know how to pack them you can get a lot of stuff in them.
My record weight for a flat rate priority box is over 11 lbs.
It must have been the spagettio's....LOL Seriously, fun stuff from home too heavy to ship becomes affordable since with flat rate you only pay for the first two pounds, the rest is free as long as it fits in the box.
