I had mentioned in another thread that we hd received a letter from our son saying he had injured his knee and was worried that he would be discharged. He had been ordered to report to sick call the next day (17th) and since then we have heard nothing from him. He is in Bravo Company with the 58th Infantry at Ft Benning. Below is the update on him.
Update:
Still no letter in today's mail and therefore my mother instincts got the better of me and I called Ft Benning. I spoke with a very nice officer and first apologized for breaking the Good Basic Training Mother rule number 1 (do not call) and explained to him that we had received a frantic letter stating that he might be kicked out and then no communication. The officer informed me that he was with his unit, no one in the unit has been kicked out and those who are having knee problems are receiving physical therapy in the mornings and are continuing with the unit.
I then asked him to give my son a good chewing out for not sending us some kind of update about his condition and he agreed and said he would even up that and would make him call home this evening.
So anyway thanks for you responses to my question, at this time it looks like all is well and he is continuing with his basic training.
I warned my son when he left for BMT. "DON'T make me have to call and check you, cause you know I will"!!! Keeping your Mother informed means keeping her quiet. Well, sort of.
I did get my call and two letter since my last post. He is doing well and was in good spirits. He says his knees hurt and his ankles but he has ibuprofen and rub and that seems to be working as he is running 2 miles every day and going on the marches. He will graduate with his group. He told me they had been so busy he did not get time until Sunday to write me an update. I am glad I called because he got to call me and he would not have been able to if I had not called and asked for an update on his knee.
I'm happy that you finally got a call. It does wonders for us Mom's just to hear thier voice on the phone. Letters are ok, but there is something about hearing them speak that is comforting. Your son has my prayers. His knee pain is certainly making things a lot tougher for him. It would be nice if he could start taking a joint supplement like chondroiten & glucosamine.
