Well, I'm a new-by here. My son just arrived last Friday 19Sept2008 to Ft. Knox, KY and on heard from him one time Monday 22nd for two minutes, maybe less. I don't know what to expect. Can anyone give me some advise. This is the first time he's been away that I hadn't spoken to him on a daily basis. Thanks for some future in-site.

Hello!

My name is Pam and my son Dustin will be leaving for BCT about the first week of November.

This forum is wonderful - everyone is so supportive and everyone understands how you feel.

What is your son's name? How old is he?

There are a lot of wonderful parents here.

Pam

Hi 192,
My son has been at Ft.Benning for two weeks, but in BCT for one week. He called last Thursday evening and only talked very briefly, like a minute. I haven't heard from since either. Hang in there, and hopefully you will get a letter or a call soon, as I am wishing for.

Hello new mom,

(sorry, I didn't remember the number)

You will find great support here. My son is at Ft. Benning in Georgia. He is in his 3rd week of basics. The mom's on here have become my little lifesavers. THANK'S GIRLS!!!!

Soon you'll say the same thing. I feel like I've known them for a long time just simply because we 'get' how each other is feeling. It will get better. Baby steps. I only cry once in a while now Big Grin

They don't get to call all that often. It's only when the drill sgt. says they can and as you already learned, for only a few short minutes. I transferred my house phone to my cell because I missed one of my sons phone calls and I was sick about it. As Katie mentioned, you'll get a letter soon with your son's address. Write him ALL the time. It's for his health as well as yours.

We're here for you to vent. Ask any questions that you have.

Debbie

p.s. Hi everyone.

Welcome 19240054,

My son Jameson is also in BCT at Ft. Benning. He's been there three weeks now. So far, no letters, but two phone calls - one as he entered BCT, and one last Sunday. Every unit is totally different - they get to call only when they have earned the privilege and how much time they get depends upon their D.S.

You should get a letter from your son's commander fairly quickly after your son enters BCT that will give you an address where you can write him. Definitely write as much as possible but refrain from sending anything unless your son specifically asks for it. If you send something he's not allowed to have it'll be taken away and he'll be "smoked" for it (punished with pushups or something else).

The first couple of weeks are rough but it does get easier. And, as Debbie mentioned, we're all in the same boat so we know how you feel. Hang in there, and if you're having a bad day, just come here to vent and we'll be here to help cheer you up.

Donna

I finally got two letters today. The first one was actually started 3 days before BCT started and finished on the second day of BCT. My son had his sense of humor still, and was sounding good, but I could tell he was tired. He said he was tired. He said they get smoked all the time, but he was good with that. He talked about his experiences so far, the second letter actually was written only a four days ago, so he writes a little bit each night, it sounds like, and then mailed it out. I was to happy to hear from him. Okay, hope everyone is doing well out there.

I'm so envious of the letters you all are getting. Sigh... wish my son were a writer. Keep the updates coming - I have to live through you all and your letters! Smile

Welcome new mom.

Depending on your son's MOS, he should be writing letters soon and getting phone calls. My son went through Ft. Knox last year as a 19D (Cav Scout). We received one or two letters a week from him and he called once or twice almost every Sunday. There was a limit to the length of the calls but they lasted about 10-15 minutes.

Sorry I can't give you much more information but you there are differences between the training for different MOS's. If you would provide a little more information in your questions or update your profile to be more than "This member" then we could probably provide more information.
