That's most of us. You've come to the right place
We all know what you're feeling and would love to let you cry on our........well................forum. It really does help as I have found. This place is my lifesaver. Welcome, Debbie |

Hi Halffull,
I've used up all the tissues! You sure have come to the right place. I honestly don't know how I'd survive this without all the lovely parents on this board. My son Dustin is in the enlistment process and will be headed for Benning the first week of November. Everyone here understands how proud we are of our kids and they also understand how worried and afraid we are. It really, really helps to come here and 'talk' - tell us about your son. Pam |

Dear Halffull,
I know exactly how you are feeling. My youngest son left on Sept. 9th for basic training at Fort Sill, OK. He has 19 weeks of training. A part of my heart left with him. I have spoken to him on the phone, very briefly, this past Sunday, Sept. 28. I have not received a letter as of yet. He is going to be 20 years old in December, he has a girlfriend and I think she has received 6 letters so far. I think I have been left standing in the lurch. What do you think? We give birth to them, we watch them grow up, we protect them and then what? I miss him so, so much. I don't want to make a big issue out of him not writing to me, but I'm heartbroken. Not 1 letter. I sure hope I receive a letter soon. Joes Mom Donna |

Basic Training |
Hi all,
My son has finished basic and is graduating AIT next week. He is 27 and married. I only received two letters during basic and a phone call. But I wrote to him often. He depended onthose letters for encouragement to keep him going. He also said that although he can talk to his wife for a short period of time; when he talks to me he wants to have more time so we can talk more in-depth about things. This made sense to me as I'm the kind of mom who wants details on everything, not just what he did that day. I don't know if that helps at all but it did me when we finally got the chance to talk about the lack of contact. I know a girlfriend and wife are two different things but it may be similar in what and how discussions are handled. Also basic is terribly demanding - not a lot of free time and little time to just sit around and think. Just keep sending letters and/or cards for encouragement and support. He'll appreciate it whether he ever says anything or not. Melanie |
