My son Jeramie just left for Ft. Benning today. He is in the National Guard out of Spearfish, SD. I just left there on Tuesday after visiting for a couple days. He was very excited about going, but the feeling is bitter-sweet because he is leaving his wife at home. They are expecting their fist child (our first grand child) in Jan. We live in Southern Calif so we will be using this forum to communicate with other parents for advice or info. Good thing is that he comes home for a couple weeks at Christmas.

Kudos for those who are moderating this site and for setting this up.

Thankyou Easyrider195.....i don't know about a true Military Mum but i do my best, my husband is also military, but he has retired a number of years ago, what really makes me more proud of these boys is that they we're all born Australian and yet they chose to be in the USA Military, they could have all gone back home to Australia but they all said "NO" they wanted to be under the flags flying the Colours "RED WHITE & BLUE" that is the most selfless thing that my sons have done, i could not ask for them to do any better than that, thats why even though i can not afford to send stuff but i manage to do so anyway, they deserve that at least, but i do love writing letters especially to the troops to boost their moral, and the more the merrier.
Thankyou again

Can't wait to see him. So proud of him!

Hi,

I have a son in the Army, but I don't know what he's doing or where he was assigned. The last time we spoke was a few weeks before he had vacation.

I'm very proud of him, but also disappointed that we are not in communication. If anyone knows how I can at least find out where he is and how he's doing, it would be most appreciated.

My name is GaTeacher, but I'm sometimes known as Laurie and I'm the Proud Army Mom of Cpl. Elijah Carroll Ga National Guard. Elijah has been in the Army for 5 years having enlisted when he was 18. I guess his sense of patriotism came from his mama as I am an Army Vet. He was stationed in Iraq in May, 2005 til Oct.2005 when an IED ripped apart his humvee and causing Elijah serious injuries. Two years later Elijah has fully recovered and has orders to go to Afghanistan. I know of the dangers of his MOS (19D Cavalry Scout) and know the military SOP very well. If I can be of any assistance to anyone drop me a line.

Hi I'm Lisa and my son is Jonah USAF stationed in Europe RAF Mildenhall. Proud of him for serving his country. We miss him terribly, and just went through our 2nd holiday season without him. (He left for BT 2 days before Thanksgiving last year.) He will be home for a 3 week leave in April and we can't wait! Happy to have this forum for support with other parents! We have 2 other son's, one in college and one in Jr. High, and although I hope they finish/attend college, won't discourage military service for them either. Changed Jonah's life, and was the best decision he has ever made!

Good morning all and welcome to the parents group. Please stop in often, and keep us up to date on how your servicemember is doing, but most of all...how your doing.
I guess we all have the same thing in common--we love our kids; we are sooooooo proud of them; and we're all scared to death.
My son is getting ready to deploy again, in a few weeks. I thought "2nd time around" might be a little easier..... not so.
Bless our troops!!
Jean

I JUST found you all and I'm SO HAPPY--didn't realize there was a forum/board for parents/MOMS!

My son was in the Old Guard for a 2 year enlistment and then went on to College. He was recently recalled to active duty in Sept and answered the call. (I think he could have gotten out of it, but he felt like he missed out on the WAR by being assigned to the Old Guard in Washington, DC...)

My son is Infantry and I think they were unsure of what to do with all the guys who showed up at Fort Benning for the recall. Anyway, he was assigned to the 1-BCT 101st Airborne Division who are stationed in Iraq. He left Benning the day after Thanksgiving and arrived in Iraq soon thereafter.

I asked my son today if he wishes he had played the "college ticket" to get out of serving--he said absolutely NOT. He said he could have gotten out of going back into the Army for a number of things, but would not have. He felt like he had actually missed out on his generation's war by not having served in Iraq or Afghanistan during his first enlistment and is glad to be doing so now...

Anyway, I am SOOOO excited to have found this Parents' site and look forward to reading more about your wonderful brave children! :-) Susan

Hi Susan, it's nice to have you with us/ but I have to make one correction........ we're not all Moms here. We have some great Dads that post and share pictures of their sons, as well as some grandparents! We're just one big family.
Be sure to let us know how your doing, and prayers for your son........and all the rest of our servicemen and women!
Jean

HI, My name is Loribearme

My son is 20 and in the Army stationed in and he is in - He was injured over Christmas by falling off a guard tower. He said he would be ok, and I believe he is back on his unit. Anyone else here have anyone in that area? I am in the dark about this! DO NOT post units or deployment locations. This is for your soldiers safety.

Hello to all!

My son is stationed in and I am worried he will get hurt again. He recently fell from a guard tower about 25 feet. I am new to this list, anyone have to deal with a wounded soldier
and the place he is situated?

Worried Mom

Hey - to the psoter with the son at RAF Mildenhall - my son is there also - got there in September 2007 but is deploying this month to the desert. How does your son like it there? My son really likes it there - our family just got back from a visit there and a side trip to London. If you can swing it it is a GREAT trip. They let visiting families stay on the base in nice apartments for $48USD a night. What career field is your son in? Mine is security forces. It is a nice base with RAF Lakenheath wihtin a couple miles. The neighboring village is nice.
