It was suggested that a "roster" might be helpful here. Post in this thread your name/username, son/daughter, and branch.

Hi!
My son was just sent to Iraq Saturday, Aug. 25th.
I'm feeling very lost and alone regarding my feelings.
Anyway, I need to know how and WHAT to send my son (once he gets "settled in"). Please help me to know what kind of things I should send him. His birthday is in two weeks (Sept. 15th) and would really like to know what to do and how to do it!

Thank you so much for any suggestions, "sgtmom"

Sincerely, mamatata

tata> "mamatata"

My son Christopher is a US Marine. Just deployed to Iraq.

2nd son Michael was in the Navy. On the carrier Abraham Lincoln. Served his 4 years. Got out.

My "ex", also Navy (Aircraft carrier Bennington), then as Air Traffic Controller. Has retired after his 40yrs.

Best years of my life was as a military wife!

Miss the life, not the "wife".

JoAnn - jskost

Son - 2nd Cav Strykers - left for Iraq on Aug 18th.

My husband is former Army - deployed twice and medically discharged.

mamatata - Best thing to do is ask your son what he wants and needs. Depending on where he is at, he may have access to "luxuries". However favorite magazines, books, jerky & candy, movies if a laptop is available, kool-aid packets, and lots of letters are often requested.

This is a great idea

There must be something about Christophers, that's my son's name too. He joined the Marines in March, left in July and is currently a recruit at Parris Island.

Oldfart48 = Teresa; Mom of Kevin USAF Security Forces Troop, currently undeployed. For now. I'm new to Military life as all family members were out before I was born or married to them. Kevin has been in the AF since Jan 2007. I have two daughters one older than Kevin and one younger and still in high school. I work as a Vet Tech full time. My husband and I raise Appaloosa horses and live in rural Indiana. I'm sure it has been a big adjustment for Kevin going from a town with 1 stoplight to the big city and military life.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Marlene (armymom013085). My only son and baby Philip is in Fort Benning, GA in boot camp for Army Infantry. I haven't heard from him since he left. Hopefully soon. This is the first time in 22 years I have not spoken to him everyday. Even when he was in college.

Our family is new to Military life. So if I ask something dum or say something dum as my children say I do, Please forgive me in advance.

My email is mar0108@comcast.net

God Bless and Keep our Soldiers Safe!

Congratulations on your sons promotion.

Are you by any chance from Natrona Heights, PA? Your son does look familiar. If not, this could be his double. They do say we all have one.

Howdy from Texas! My oldest son is on his second deployment in Baghdad. He is just finishing up his 5th year of service with the 1st Cav Div. He will be home the first part of '08 and plans to begin working on his teaching degree at Rice University.

I am looking forward to having my L'il Trooper back home!

Nice to have another Stryker mom on here. I don't know much about them, my son actually went airborne, but ended up a Stryker. He says the Strykers are "cool" and nothing is gonna touch them. I guess they are a little safer than jumping out of planes.

Hi. I'm Pam, my son David is in the Army, getting prepared for his third deployment to Iraq. He got married August 3rd, has a lovely wife. Unfortunately, I am in Illinois and they are in Colorado. His ETS date is in Sept. 08, we'll see if they let him leave Iraq then or stop-loos him. I am having a bit of a hard time dealing with the fact that he won't be home prior to deployment as he has a wife and child (actually step-child, but David is the dad to him) and that is his priority now. I just pray that they are happy and he comes home safely.
