My daughter has been in Boot Camp for 1 week now, yesterday I recieved another 1 minute phone call. She said that she " blew out her knee " ( she has always had trouble with her knee all her life ) and that at 6 weeks they will do a re evalution on her, she also passed out after doing the 30 ft wall and went to the hospital and has some trouble with the 3 mile walk/run. So...my question is will they send her home from boot camp or just find something else for her to do like office work ?
jessicamom ~ I was a moderator on a different message board for several months dealing specifically with Marine recruits. I cannot speak for other military branches, but I have seen cases go both ways for female recruits in the Corps.
One thing is certain for all branches, if Jessica is to be sent home, it will not happen until she is fit enough to leave. This can take some time to occur. A complete medical evaluation has to occur. The military is quick to bring 'em in, but red-tape takes a while to discharge them.
Also, if Jessica is sent home to recuperate, she may be given a chance to try again after healing.
Thank you for your reply, I just hope that she works out the situation with her knee. I feel if they discharge her due to not being able to complete Basic Training that she wont go back, like alot of parents hear..she said it wasnt what she expected.
Boot camp is no walk in the park, for any service. It is indeed, an eye opener for many. Your Jessica made the decision to volunteer, and is deserving of my gratitude for the attempt. Please thank her for me.
Thank you so much for your kind words !!! I am so tired of having people around me say " What was she thinking " " Is she crazy " " Why would she go and join the Army "
GGRRR ...This is the only place that I feel that people understand and can obviously relate .
my son sprained his ankle during his basic, I think they gave him a couple of days off, wraped it up tight and he continued on, running on it ect.. now he is in the sandbox and it still kills him..sometimes during a mission,he almost falls during running because it wants to give out on him..Of course he didnt want to complaimn during basic,I think he should have, now it will alway be a problem..so mabey you could tell her to try and get the right med attention so it will heal properly, if she will. Tell her to hang in there, and thank her also...
I have no idea when she will call again, and even then they are 1 minute phone calls.I have yet to recieve an address and she left on the 13th of this month,I hope she gets thru this. It makes me somewhat mad that she told her recruiter that she has always had knee problems, but yet it was dismissed.I know this is what she wants ..to be there..ok ..well maybe not right now during red week when she's getting yelled at.. but in the Army, between her knee and a possible bad attitude from what she's going through with basic I dont want her to get a ticket home without seeing how it can all be after graduation.
My son had the same problem with his knee when he went into the Navy. His knee gave out on him and he was on crutches. They were thinking about sending him home but he did everything that he could while on the crutches. I believe this is why they may have kept him in boot camp. There was this other guy who did nothing and they kicked him out and told him to come back later.
Jessicasmom, my daughter is also going into the Army. She just seems so happy about it. Like her life finally has meaning. She married a person who was no good (he is in the Army) and he got her and him in trouble with the police (he shopliftted in Walmart in Texas and she now has a police record. Thank God she is getting a divorce from him in August. Because of him she can not go into the Army and become a military police officer like she wanted to do. Can I harm him in anyway?
Hello its me again Jessicasmom. My son also called home actually crying. It doesn't last forever. it is just a mind game. they try to break you out of your civilian life and into the military life. I have heard that once you are out of Bootcamp school is a breeze. I wish her alot of luck. Tell her I said to just hang in there and think happy thoughts when they are yelling at her. My niece just went to bootcamp for the Air Force and I heard that she has cried on numerous occassions.
Ugh I'm so hoping they dont send her home...ok..ok as a mom I do...but as a parent she needs to be there and straighten her life out...I guess time will tell
my husband is in ait right now but, when he was in basic he had a blow ankle and they pretty much kept him on a profile till it got better.Gave him meds, bed rest. Once it got better he was back at what he was there to do.
Well I hope that happens with jessica, I read too many post's of them being sent home. That just seems like the easy way out when the going gets tough.!!
jessicamom ~ Well, it's been about a week. Just dropping in to see how Jessica is doing. Sure hoping (and praying) she is healing and adjusting to all that yelling in boot camp.
I have gotten 3 letters from her so far, she sounds so much better as time goes on !!!! As for her knee she feels she will have to maybe change her M.O.S, but I am praying that she doesnt. She will probably find this out at the end of the month when they do a 6 week checkup on her, if she does have to change her MOS....any suggestions ? She has Parachute Rigger as of now.
Oh and as for the DS...some are ok and others are not..LOL The girls in her bay fight all of the time and she stays out of it, the girls in her Platoon are much better to get along with according to her.
Hey!! This is good news, indeed! The first few weeks are filled with homesickness, insecurity, and self-doubt in any boot camp. As the weeks roll on, the platoons will begin to gel, becoming more confident in themselves and their achievements. That's when the pride starts to show up. Glad to hear Jessica has a good head on her shoulders by staying away from the rowdies.
As for another MOS, there's hundreds of them to choose from. If her knee continues to be a problem, I'd suggest something where she can stay off her feet, and will benefit her after her enlistment is up. Anything to do with computers is always a good choice. Electronics schools aren't easy, but with a lot of study, most can make it through.
I thank you for your replies and post to my questions,it's anyones guess as to what will happen at her checkup. She seems to be able to do the 6 mile walk as of yesterdays letter, but then again I guess it all depends on what the doc says. I will keep you posted when I find out any news.
10-4. I'll check in occasionally to see if there are updates. Once again, thank your daughter for me for stepping up to serve our country. A lot of kids today wouldn't even consider it.
