My son was suppose to leave on 7/29 for bootcamp at Ft. Leonard Wood. His recruiter called last nite and he got bumped up and they are picking him up on sunday. I know it is only 4 days different but now it is so real. And I am no stranger to military life. I am prior service and my husband is in the national guard now. But this is my baby and he will be gone 6 months with basic and AIT. I can't quit crying.

Hang in there. You'll get the hang of it and it will get better. Right now you need to be strong for him. Cry all you want once he's gone, but don't make him remember you crying all the time before he left.

That's okay. We can't help it when the "mommy-mones" hit. But you don't want him to leave upset that he feels like he has hurt you.

How ya doin'? Feeling any better? Sometimes the shock of it all is overwhelming. The only thing I can say is that it does get easier as time goes by. Since you're an old-hand at the whole military life, don't think that this is the same old-same old. Like you said, this is your baby, which takes it into a whole new realm. The feelings are different when it's your KID! If it helps, there's thousands of us going through the same thing. We need to stand together and stay strong together for our soldiers. Best wishes from another Army mom... TRY to get some sleep (that's my problem, just can't sleep!) HOOAH!

It's starting to get easier. Just trying to take it one day at a time. Waiting to get his address so we can write him. I am assuming that will take a few weeks till we get the address. It is still weird though I keep waiting for him to walk thru the front door.

I have a son who's been in the army for 6 years, 2 deployments to Iraq and one to Korea. I just take one day at a time, pray for him every day and let him know that no matter where he's at his dad and I are with him. He knows that he is my "cookie monster" and he tells me that even though he is growing and becoming a man he is still a kid at heart. During his deployments my husband and I keep busy by supporting him and sending mail and care packages to him and his fellow soldiers.
God has our backs, take care.

wenray - just checking in to see how you are doing now. It's been about a month since he left so you should have his address to write and hopefully a phone call or two.
