I was wanting to know if there is anyone on here that their son/daughter left for Fort Benning, GA that would start Boot Camp around August 31, 2007 and graduation date around Dec 7, 2007? My son left yesterday and I was just trying to reach out that maybe we could keep each other informed of what we hear from our son/daughter.

Sorry, but my son just left for boot camp at Ft. Benning last Wednesday. I am still waiting to hear from him to find out when he will graduate, so I can start looking for CHEAP airline tickets and a hotel.

Good Luck

Heck, almost two years ago when our son went off to Parris Island for the Marine Corps, my ex was very calm where as I was the worried one. I think it had to do with I had more of an idea what he was in for than she did.

I lost 20 lbs from loss of appetite for the 3 1/2 months he was there.

You'll laugh about all the worrying when it's over. Big Grin Then it starts all over because it won't be just training. Eek

Heck, I'd freak about as much if he was off on some college campus the way things are today.

My son, 19-years-old, told me he was trying to get into the Army. (he is in Texas and I am in Kansas). I really wasn't worried because really I didn't think he would pass the physical, something has to show up..right? But no, he passed. He told me today that he was going to be leaving for Georgia on Oct. 22nd. I have been told that where you do you basic training says a lot about the job field you are going into. He says he tested and was placed for communications. He is VERY intelligent when it comes to computers and stuff like that, but everything I have read about Ft. Benning is that it is all infantry. Now this has me really worried. I know it would not do me any good to say anything, but could the recuiter have lied to him? I am stricken with anxiety right now. I don't want him to go into infantry, but I am just his mother and don't want to let go. Someone tell me it is going to be okay. Anyone?

Hi shybobbi,

Yes, your son will be okay. Everyone, no matter what their chosen MOS (your sons is communication, mine's is health care specialist) will be trained the same way during basic training, no matter what their 'job' is in the army. Then after basic training, your son will do his specialty training for his chosen field. Does that make sense?

When my son graduates from BCT (basic training) in November, he'll go immediately to Ft. Sam Houston and begin his 16 weeks of speciality training to become a medic. That is called AIT training. During AIT is when your son will be with others that have chosen communications as their speciality/job, or MOS, as well.

I know it's scarey and confusing. We're all in the same place as you, just different stages, so don't hesitate to ask questions and we'll help you as best we can Smile

hang in there,

Debbie

Hi Debbie,
O my god that's the best news yet!!!!
He' sent me a list of all the things he wants me to bring on graduation, it's like a page long!!! Ya think there starting to get a litte excited!! there probable as excited as we are.
I gotta get going on buying him a laptop, that's the one thing he really wants. he says so he can email us all the time. Im thinking of getting one with a web cam, so I can see that boy(MAN) of mine..haha o ya he would also like chip ahoys LOL, he never eats junk, ya think there hungry!! Shawn's also brought up in his last letter about trouble makers in his platon, It's hard to hear, I know just how your feel, I renches at your heart.
It's hard knowing are boys are there becouse it's been a life long dream of theres and then theres allways a few in the pot to stir things up.
but are boys are smart they'll stay strong, and do as there told. and follow the rules. that's what makes a great soldier... so just hang in there debbie were allmost there.

Hi everyone.
My Boyfriend has just recently enlisted, and is going to the Basic Training thing out in Fort Benning, GA. I am very worried about him,He's only 17 and i don't want him to get hurt. I am doing my research about everything to do with what he's enlisted for, but it still scares me. I watched "An Officer and a Gentleman" to sort of understand what they all go threw, but it's only scaring me even more... DO people die in Basic Training?

Also Do people have time to adjust because we're from the west coast, so the 3 hour difference... it's going to be tough. and i know this sounds crazy to ask this, but do they have time, to write letters or something to keep in contact with their friends, and family?
