I HAVE BEEN UPSET EVERY DAY SINCE MY DAUGHTER GONE. I NEED HELP. I CRY MOST OF THE TIME. I'M USE TO TALKING TO HER EVERY DAY! I KNOW PEOPLE TELL ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT HER BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS LIKE. HAS ANY ONE EVER HAD ANY BAD DREAMS ABOUT THIS?

Hi Ash1988,
My son deployed for the first time in January. I was so fearful I couldn't hardly stand it. Had a major breakdown one day with shakes, tears, etc. The only solution for me anyway was prayer and faith. He is going to be deployed for a whole year. I don't doubt there will be other times that are pretty tense. But I have to say that since I faced the fact he was going, I feel calmer. Its also easier since I know where he is and have been in touch regularly. If your daughter has just deployed, you may not have had that opportunity yet. It does make a difference. One of the ways we "talk" is through facebook. Maybe you can set up an account. Get skype and a webcam and get ready to see your daughter when you get to talk to her, depending on where she is. Use this time to work on your faith so you can be strong and supportive for her for when she gets homesick and needs you. We are the strong ones for them. Army strong just goes so far; we know what our kids need most. Be there and be ready. I know what you are feeling. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk anytime.

This is perfectly normal. Give yourself some time to adjust to her being gone. If this continues for more than 2 weeks you may want to see your doctor. Some spouses and parents need medication to help them deal with the stresses of deployments.

Remember that no news is good news. I know that's difficult to do, but it is true.

I would suggest getting a journal to write in daily. It does help to get the feelings out and onto paper.

You may want to seek out a support group in your area or start one if there is not one close to you.

Consider speaking with your Pastor/Priest/Minister as well.

Hang in there.
