Greetings to the list -- My son will turn 21 in a couple weeks during his OSUT at Ft. Benning. We plan to celebrate with him during family weekend the first weekend in April. However, family and friends are asking about sending him cards. I would appreciate hearing from others who have experienced this situation and get your thoughts/recommendations. Do we tell them to go ahead and send directly to him, or send to us and we'll deliver them in April?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Hi!
My boyfriend's birthday was yesterday, hes at Ft. Benning in OSUT and we all sent him cards. I told all his friends and family too. I would send the cards to him, it will brighten his day because he won't want to tell anyone else its his bday or the drill seargents will make him pay! I talked to my bf today and he loved all the cards

My son went through the same thing. Send him cards. Those are always appreciated although he will probably have to do extra pushups when the cards come in. It's worth it though.

Always send cards when possible. It may be the only thing he gets. My son's 21st birthday was during OSUT and 22nd was in Iraq. Since his next one is during the middle of the week, we also won't get to see him on his next birthday.

My son turned 22 during basic's. For sure send something, however, I'd tell people to send letters and not cards. I know my son appreciated every single letter he got, even if it said nothing important. Those words on paper may as well been written in gold ink. He appreciated that more than a card with a simple signature.

And, yes, if the DS knows it's your son's birthday, he may get some special attention Frown but it will be worth it.

I also called his cell phone to wish him a happy birthday although I knew he wouldn't get the message for another 2 months. That was more for me, than him Smile

Lol birthdays in OSUT,,, lol my son turned 18 and you know a mama of an 18 year old, send the cards. They love them and letters too. Your son won't care about the attention he gets if hes like mine he just wants to know hes not forgotten! As if they could be. Anyway don't do my mistake, I called. Don't do that. They make a big stink out of it, made him do pushups and called him a mamas boy for a bit. I felt bad but he just laughed and said, "Mom I love ya" lol. I have sent him all kinds of stuff, a few times having to open in front of drill sgts just to see. But oh well have fun with it. Gives them something to be proud of and it helps. It really does.

My son just turned 21 as well. He is stationed at Camp Lejeune. He said other Marines just returning from Iraq were in a spending mood so they took him out. Guess I can't post any photos from the club they went to. Eek
