My son is in the Air Force, he is still in traing, he graduated BMT.

He called me last night telling me he was more afraid of his job than being deployed. He fears dying from his job. He has being in trianing for 2 weeks now.

What advise can I give him and is there a chance he can ask for a change in his job due to being afraid.

You haven't given us much to go on here. Not knowing what his job is I cannot address that issue, but I can help ease your concern. The Air Force, as well as the other services, maintains very high, strict safety standards. Your son is being trained by the best, his safety is of paramount concern to them. The best advise I can give you is to listen to him, then encourage him to hang in there, complete his training, and then address his fears, if he still has them at that time. He will probably not have the fear of the job then as he does now.

thank you for your response.

I am just so concerned when a child of mine tells me he thinks he's going to die doing his job.

I informed him they are teaching him to be alert & aware of the hazards of his duties. He still is extremely upset and would like to change positions. I am now at work and can't help but worry for him, and more stressed because this is out of my control. I am a newbie at this and still worry for his safety.

Again I do thank you for assuring me of the AF's stringent education and safey standards. And I will continue to encourage him to go on and set aside his fears to save his own life so fear does not get in the way of his safety, or others safety.

I will just say that in his position he is only a few inches of his head or limbs being chopped off or severed, which is a little bit more of reality than any video game he used to play.
